I just got back from my first \"E1\" wedding. Have to run in 15mins to go to the reception to take some pix. Anyway, this was _the_ testcase for performance of the E1.
I shot about 300 images, need to go through them still.
I am excited about the shots during the church ceremony.. The ceremony was in a cave, and the only lighting was candlelight. I had to shoot at 800ISO, f/2.8-3.5 and 1/30s .. and still the images are underexposed. Longer shutterspeed would result in too much movement, I am happy I was able to hold 1/30s still at 54mm most of the time.
Now, noise... I think it is not too bad, if you don\'t push the exposure too far.
I\'ll post some samples in the coming days, have to run again ;-)

Oh, Tony, glad to see the site back up, thanks mate, and: make a backup NOW ;)

edit: oh, and I LOVE the photovest, I used it for the wedding, so nice to have so many pockets on your body.

Hey, the transfer just sucked, but anyhow, we need to see those pictures. I think that I would of passed on that wedding. If I can\'t use a flash, and it\'s inside, I do not trust myself.
I don\'t want them all blurry.

That sounds like a nightmare. I just shot a wedding in Italy where the bride and groom insisted on all the formal groups were shot in a shaded archway with the midday sun illuminating absolutely everything in the background. My FL36 was struggling to fill in at a range of about 10 feet.I look forward to seeing your results. I\'ll post some of mine too when Tony is confident the gallery is up and stable.

Sorry for the confusion: I did use flash. The FL36 performed admirably, although at some points I wished for a little stronger flash. I did not have problems with recycle times of the FL36, I did however have problems with 2 sets of 2300mAh NiMH batteries. They only worked for maybe 20 shots.. I replaced them with normal Alkalines, and they worked all session. The NiMHs were new, maybe they were not yet up to full power (I charged them twice).

I noticed this as well. The FL36 is perfect for indoors and darker environments, but it really lacks punch for daylight fill-in. For groups, not ideal.

I agree, having the Fl-36 and FL-50, it doesn\'t have enough juice to do the fill in always. But I do like the Fl-36 a lot. It recycles fast, and also is smaller.
However, I can\'t wait to get my hands on a Quantum flash. I think that will even be better than a FL-36.... (But they are a lot of Cash)
I already have a Turbo battery pack, that I have used most of the year, so that is 1 less expense.

I must stress it was battling against the midday Italian sun. The main wedding party group photo was taken under a very large tree which shaded and softened the light over a large area. Even at 14mm the FL36 managed to fill that lot in from about 15ft.

You are right about the NiMh batteries. They take about 5 to 6 cycles before they give of their best. My 2 year old 2200mAh batteries from my old E-20 comfortably out performed the brand new 2600mAh that I had bought in a paranoid moment.

The one thing I did notice when it was time to change the batteries was that they were uncomfortably hot. The recycle time on the FL36 is good for a two battery flash, but it knocks the hell out of them while doing it. I\'m guessing the effect would be much reduced in the four cell FL50.

Hey Tony

Tell me more about the Turbo Battery pack please.

I have been shooting weddings this summer, mostly as the assistant documenting the event while the pro was shooting the formals.

I am finding that the recharge time of the FL36 to be rather long at times. Does the Turbo Battery pack speed up the recharge time? Or am I better off just getting 3200 batteries?

Please share a link so I can check out the product.

Thanks..

Kelly
