What type of metering do you prefer to use and why?
Spot = 2% metering from the center of the frame
Center = Over all picture metering
ESP= Saves highlights.

I use ESP for flash. Also on shots that I want the silhouette of:

I like spot, because I know what is in the middle will be exposed correctly.
I would love for the camera, to do a double exposure 1 for center and 1 for highlights, that would be a huge DR (dynamic range).
Center weight is closest.

I used spot ever since I got the E1, until recently. After reading some post on dpreview, I switched to center metering. I have ended up with too many faces that were not properly exposed because of this, so I think I will be switching back to spot.
Maybe if I were shooting landscape I would use center but for the majority of shots I do, I think spot is better.

ESP and Spot.
I like the highlights in most.
Spot meter if I have an oddball contrast between background and subject.

This is another \"depends on the situation\" type question...I tend to use the centre weighted for most, spot when I use AEL, handheld meter when using studio strobes, and my instinct when I want a certain mood and the camera\'s meter would be of no use.

I have been shooting centerweight for a bit. I think that spot is better for the subject w/out flash. ESP for flash. center weight when I don\'t care.

Tony, you left out one choice: eyeball. :-)
When I use auto exposure (AE), I use ESP most of the time. But I shoot in Manual mode (eyeball) most of the time. I often use AE just to get an idea what manual settings to start with for a particular ISO setting. Then I manually adjust things from there.

Well, Manual mode isn\'t metering. I would put that in a question what type of mode do you shoot in. A, S, P, M....
That\'s a Q for next week. (After I get a E-300 with 50 modes)

Earlier on ESP, lately centre weighted. Both give good results.

ESP and spot, depending on the situation and if I have flash attached..

I use all three, depending on the situation (and if I remember to change it - LOL). I use lighting conditions first and then subject matter and finally distance in my decision. Do not always get it right, but nearly always.

All three...
Ussually centre-weighted and a little AEL thrown in.. i prefer this becos it\'s at least consistent...
Spot - when i have the time, been trying to prac using spot, makes me work alot harder..hehe :P
ESP - when using flash... also been experimenting with it, seems more stable in v1.3 firmware.. may make a move from centre to ESP...:silly:
