Manually setting lens

Hi,
I was trying to take some shots the other night on a moonlit foggy night with my E300. I was experimenting with my 14-54 lens and was trying to set it to f2.8 but it would not show this (I think it showed 3.1). Is that normal?

Depending on the focal lenght you are choosing on your 14-54 it will chane max opening from 2.8 on 14mm focal lenght to 3.5 on 54mm focal lenght (that\'s why lens is 14-54 f2.8-3.5). Since you got max opening of 3.1 I\'m guessing you were somewhere afour 40 focal lenght.
