These are a few of the test shots from the E-300 last week. I must say its a great camera. The lawn ornament of the bird had some WB issues, but after that it worked fine. I am impressed.

My husband\'s sister has a two month old baby... my nephew by marriage. He\'s very cute and sleepy in this picture. Experimented with coverting it to black/white....grayscale was all I could find in PS CS? http://fourthirdsphoto.com/components/com_simpleboard/uploaded/images/BW9252678web.jpg

To convert to B+W in PS go to Adjustment layers (Either at the bottom of the layer box, or image/adjustments) I prefer to make it a layer, then I can always undo it later.
Select channel mixer and then click on the monochrome box.
That will make a B+W image. You will want to play with all three of the adjustments, RGB, and you should try to equal around 100% in the final image.
Hope that helps.
BTW - Cute kid. It\'s better sleeping than crying. B)

Took my E300 to my nephew\'s first birthday party. This is the first family gathering for the E300. Used the FL-36 and HLD-3 battery grip. The grip makes portrait shots much easier with the 2nd shutter button.

Remnants of Rita. Shot these while it was drizzling, gotta love the E-1 for that. Used the 50mm macro with the extension tube. I am not too hot at using it yet. All were shot at F2 and varying shutter speeds

That\'s really nice. I love the E-1. I have never regretted buying it.
Good shots, That definitly is one of the advantages of the EX Tube you are able to get really close to the action.

I was not very pleased with either myself or my equipment on this shoot. Her skin was almost blown out and when I adjusted the image in ACR for the correct exposure on her skin, the rest of the image was almost all black. The adjustment on this image is a compromise.

Lawrence, that looks like a tough subject to meter! Maybe someone will have a solution for you that would have helped

Have you tried to run it through Viewer/studio to see if it turned out any different? I have had things look very different from ACR to Viewer. Just a thought, probably wouldn\'t make much difference :)

My suggestion, 1st go to Judo Pictures on the net, then get your client & a judo partner to go thro holds & throws as per the pics on Judo.. you may have to hire a small section of a hall WITH Natural lighting.

i agree with LL. It\'s the proverbial black cat in a coal bunker situation. It\'s a bit small to see, but the metering seems to have struck the only balance it could with the dynamic range imposed by your subject. A slower shutter speed utilizing the slow sync would help as the flash would be reduced to a fill in role, but that\'s not possible for the action shots you were doing.

She came home from next door wearing this. I have no backdrops, no studio lighting, or anything of the sort. So, I put the Gary Fong diffuser on the flash and did my best. Things look much better also when I use the tripod, which I didn\'t. How could I improve these snapshotty shots? These would be adorable against a white backdrop. Fishtank was better than anything esle I could find to stick her in front of. Oh how I wish we were millionaires! ;)

I promise I will stop posting to this thread :D I think I have the CS2 too much green worked out. That is if I have Adobe displaying correctly!

In FP mode you can go higher SS. I don\'t remember how fast, but I think its like 1/2000.
How close were you to the action at this event?

T

Tony,

For this event I was very close; about 5-10 feet for most of the shots.
I shot about 150 images, and most of them are keepers.

I did notice something a little strange with the camera though. As we were talking about the other day, the camera keeps turning off at the wring times. Well, today, three times the camera turned off just after I took a photo, after not taking a photo for some time.. I don\'t know if this was just coincidence and the camera may have turned it self off at that instance, or what. However, it did seem strange. I am going to watch for this happening on my next shoot.

I think I tried the FP mode when I first purchased my E1. If I remember correctly, the flash intensity decreases dramatically with increased speed. I guess I figured that I could not easily figure out which shots it would work for and which shots it would not. I kind of gave up on it.

Maybe I should spend a little more time looking into this feature.

It may be time to send in the E-1 for a good cleaning, and check up. I do mine every 6 months to 1 year... If you need to borrow my E-1 body for a couple of weeks you can.

T

Tony,

Thanks for the very generous offer.

I think I am going to buy a couple of new batteries for the camera. Mine are a little old and may be getting flaky. Then I am going out and shoot some flowers or something. Give the camera a good workout. If I still have problems I may send it in for a check-up. Right now, I have all next month with no planned shoots. This would be a good time to get this done.

Had another go at photographing the wonderful local singer-songwriter, Emma Rugg <www.emmarugg.com> last night. Last time, I made the mistake of only taking my 40-150mm and, because it\'s a very gloomy venue, spot-meter for her face, and shoot that.

This time, though, I spot-metered and then, against all my instincts - underexposed. Shot the evening at 1/10-1/20s at f2.8-3.5 at 400ASA. Result was that, though I had to adjust light levels a fraction in Photoshop, I had highlight detail and, more importantly, didn\'t need to use my digital noise remover. What I did do, though, was create an identical layer, apply gaussian blur of 1.0, and then reduce the opacity of that layer to 50%. Seems to be a good compromise between detail and noise as the detail, when photographing in the dark, looks like arranged noise...

Den, That is a nice conversion to B+W. I imagine it will have a lot of noise in the full shot. But at this size it looks like it is sharp enough. You should try to print it, It looks great.

NrthrnHrse,

I use the 14-50mm lens almost exclusively for BMX, as I like to get close to the action. I have used my 50-200mm lens, and have gotten some very nice images, but I think the 14-54mm lens works better for this application.

The BBC building here in Hull held a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Research this morning, with raffles, cake, and coffee... Depicted is one half of country-blues duo, King-Rollo.co.uk (not sure which half). He\'s a good musician - which is why this not technically competent picture is all the more fun for me: he looks so goofy, standing in front of a projected weather map...

Den - Some times photos are worth more than Artistic perfection This is one of them. It is a fond memory of a goofy looking guy to me, but to you, he is a great musician.

Tony,

Yes, this is our church in Boulder City. We had the baptism of our newest grandson yesterday so I took my camera.

It is interesting that you say you would like a more square on shot as I deliberately took it at an angle thinking it would make for a more interesting shot.
