The forum should fly now. I have a couple bugs but I don't think that we will have people complain about speed anymore.

Great job Tony! The pages snap on to the screen. But a lot of the photos are not showing up!

They will. I have set a script to rebuild them... It has taken a hour or so.

The site is a bit faster, but the pages certainly don't 'snap', much slower than that other site. It could have something to do with having to get all the way down to this wee land mass in the south, but I think there is a bit more to it than that.

Hum... Last week it was very slow.
But now it seems better.
I will keep working on it.

I also lost a couple days of attachments where they went I don't know. :( So those will have to be reuploaded. (I don't think that's a word... OH well its late here)

I have done a few modifications with the settings to see if its any better. But we will see.
I may have to not allow any attachements to be uploaded at all.

It looks like that the 2 GB of Ram was used up very quickly. It looks like I will be adding more ram this week. (I had over 1 GB of Ram page outs, and that was the main cause for the slow forum.)

No question on my machine - right now this screams on my machine!

It's about 2x faster than before but still not as fast as most sites.
Nice improvement though!

The DataBase for the site is very Hungry for RAM.
So I have more on order. I get a lot of page outs everyday, so by middle of next week it should be even better.

haha
good one.
I am running a totally dedicated server. Only some e-mail is shoved through here, for a company that I manage their e-mail.
I cannot make it any faster.
I will add ram.
But this is a G5 Xserve, that I bought primarily for this site.

(Did you see the announcement that the site was down, it was both in the chit-chat, and home page?)
I have updated the rest so that it is working now. (Articles, and contacts, and links)
But I need to re add all the links, and contact info.
I was stressing the system a lot.
I think that the main problem is that the forum is very RAM hungry and I hope that when I get down to the server, to add more that this problem will be fixed.

The time zones got me mixed up. If extra RAM doesn't work, you might need to consider load balancing.

Tony, the site under the new server is very slow. How did you set the Xserve up? I may be able to help see if there is a setup problem (Mac certified but don't deal with the Mac servers).
You know you can nice processes, sometimes that helps and of course I presume that the data is off on it's own drives and all that. What kind of hookup do you have to this server? If it's an appache thing, which it likely is - I don't know a thing about that except that tweaking it can make startling changes - good and bad.
But anyhow - sorry to say - this is worse than before right now.

Hey Pavel,
What is happening is that the forum, is blowing through over 1 GB of ram, everyday, and then we get a ton of page outs, that makes the site very slow.
For example, right now we have 32748 page outs!
So until the ram comes in and I can go down to the server, I will have to restart it a lot.
VBulletin, is very ram intensive. Every user is using 14.46 MB of ram!
