View Full Version : Menai Bridge (b&w)
This elegant bridge, completed in 1826, is the first large, "modern" suspension bridge, and still used today.

I agree, an elegent structure. The arches lend a sense of permanence. I traveled the Alaskan Highway last year and there were a lot of suspension bridges built on it during construction in World War II. Only one remains now, all the others having been replaced with other types of construction. How sad.
