sorry for the repetitive post, but I thought other East Bay Calif types might like to know about the bumper crop of ticks we are having - so this is repeat of dpreview post:

I went for a very short hike on Sunday afternoon and pulled off more than 35 ticks when I got home!

I'm still finding them in my car - and now they are all over inside my house - on my clothing, my furniture, in the sinks, etc..... I've pulled so many off my neck and head that my skin won't stop crawling....

so what else to do? take a photo of course....

company tonight, so just 2 rushed photos - 2nd isn't very good, but shows that I apparently have 2 types - or am I seeing gender differences?

(little does my company know what presents they will likely be taking home with them.... ha ha)

E1 with 50mm - for size purposes, see the edge of the paper the first one is standing on... they are both smaller than lentils.... I had to use c-af and pan for most shots, the ticks were moving so fast!

I'll try to get some better shots when I have more time.... heaven knows, I'm not likely to run out of subjects soon....

Ticks like these are one of the reasons I left Northern Minnesota. Please keep them on your side of the mountains. I would hate to see them here in Sountern Nevada.

I hope there is no Lime disease connected with these ticks.

Sheesh Doreen,

Where did you go hiking around here to get all those ticks? I've only ever managed to do something like that once and it required a lot of bushwhacking up in the grassy hills of Martinez. I can still remember having everyone in the family strip naked in the garage while we picked bugs off each other like a bunch of monkeys.

I love how you've taken advantage of the situation photographically. Nice shots. Those bugs still look a little hungry though if you ask me.

Cheers,

Top class shots, Doreen.
And that is the only way I like ticks, on photo.
I have to take some of the dog with tweezers depending on the season, but I have never heard of so many at once on one person.
If you don't mind I'll do my hiking on this side of the world.

Yuck, Doreen, how can you stay in your house with those bloodsuckers? I remember hiking on an overgrown trail when my field partner and I suddenly noticed hundreds of them crawling on each other. They were restricted to a hundred-foot length of the trail.

After we moved beyond the infestation and cleaned them off, neither of us had a bite. Was it a recent hatch? A tick orgy?

Cool that you thought to mount the macro lens and take a few photos, though! May your tick photo ops go to zero very soon.

We also have ticks here in Japan, but not so many! I don't know if I've ever gotten them on me, although our dog picks them up occasionally when I walk her in the mountain. What I hate are the chiggers or whatever that make horrible red welts that seem to last forever.

Those are very nice shots, by the way, they could make the pages of National Geographic.

I live in the East Bay as well and luckily never had a problem.
