Here is a picture of my son taken on his first birthday. The focus is soft because he moved toward me after I locked focus but I like the way it turned out. What do you think?

I would have preferred they be in focus, but it's still a cute picture. Look at those blue eyes!
Very nice. It's traditional to use a little softer focus on portraits anyway, whether at the time of the capture or with suitable PP.

He's adorable - really nice portrait!
Very nice. There was a time when a photo was good enough if you could recognize the people on it. These days everything has to be pin sharp.
Portraits may be a bit soft. Maybe you could try some sharpening on a feathered selection of the eyes. The color is great.

Thanks for the kind comments. My son has now gotten to the stage where he wants to see himself on the E-500 screen after the shot is taken. So now he sees the camera and immediately starts advancing toward it. Makes it hard to lock focus while avoiding fingerprints. Add to that the fact that the camera sometimes has a hard time focusing on him and taking a picture of my son becomes very difficult. Might the camera have trouble focusing because of the lack of contrast in his features (blonde hair, white skin)?
