Here are a few shots from the treadly race I shot yesterday. I used the 11-22mm, 35-100mm and the 90-250mm (the former and latter got the most use).

The eventual race winner tailing the 2nd place getter:

The race winner in the lead in the last few laps:

The women's race and trying something different; it didn't quite work, but I don't mind it:

Some of the women racers:

If I have to do one of these again, I'll be better prepared. I only got an hour or so notice on this one, so couldn't do any research at all.

Cheers

Ray, those are excellent! The one that you said "didn't quite work" may not be what the paper wants, but it's definately the best of the bunch! It clearly shows the adrenaline-rush speed of the sport.

They were definately worth the sunburn. Well done!

I really like the first one Ray for the POV, you have to practice your panning though.:D Thanks for sharing.

Third one is the best but you really need a better pannig skill. That soot really show the speed.

When I read the title, I thought it said "Ann in Lycra" and I was all over it to click it and see. :D

Then it dawned on me  that it said Men instead.

Anyway, I think you done well for no real notice. Looks like in #1 you is about to get runned over. It is a nice shot.

Got any shots with some dudes foot and camera strap in them :dontknow: :D

Thanks all. My panning skills certainly need some improvement and I knew it was going to be hit and miss either way. Focus speed was again an issue with the E1 and this is the one and most important improvement Olympus could make in their next camera - at least for me.

Very funny 4/3! I think the last time I was in lycra was about 22 years ago (which Don has pinned on his wall).

Ray: I really like #3. It's ok that it didn't come in better focus, I really like the affect. The shot of the women makes it seem like they were just tooling along at minimum speed.
You've never shot a race like this before?

Hey Ray,

Those are some really nice pics of yours, especially #2 I like the effect it gives of fast motion in progress:thumbup:

Jdcool...

Nope! Never shot anything like this before and, reflecting on the shots, there are a number of different/additional things I would do if this came up again. I look back and think that some things should have been obvious, but on the day there is so much happening that it becomes a bit of a sensory overload situation. It took me several weeks just to become comfortable just with cricket and football, so I wasn't expecting great things from the day. Fortunately I got enough to fulfill the job requirements.

The first shot is excellent - it really gets you into the action, almost as a participant, rather than an observer.

I am a little surprised that you said the 35-100 was your least used lens.

I shot a race about a year ago and used the 40-150. At the time, All I had was the kit lenses. All I wished for was something just a little wider than 40mm and something a little longer than 45mm!

I would have thought that the 35-100 would be the Ideal lens to shoot something like this. I will have a go again at this years event (next month) and shoot with both the 14-54 and 50-200 and see how it goes.

+1000 on the focusing. There are a lot of shoot i missed because of the focusing.I could gone away with a D80 or D200 on that kind of condition. What can i do now is buy fast glass but no $$.Only have dual kit lens now, hopefully focusing will be better with Sigma 30mm F1.4.
