Cut fresh from the garden after this morning's rain. Both using ambient light from a window. First one came out brighter because the sun made a fleeting appearance. :)

Pretty cool shots. Interesting to see the different tones in the two.

Did you have any room lights on? I'm just guessing that you did, because the second one looks a lot "warmer", perhaps due to a shift towards orange from the room's tungsten lights.

Very, very nice shots, in any case. The dew drops really add to the composition, and the color difference between them really changes the mood. The first picture is very serene and lovely, while the second seems more "passionate". The first is definitely my favorite, even though there's more detail of the "veins" in the rose petals in the second one.

Thanks for sharing them.

Thanks, Rick. No lights at all. All light was from the window.

Hmm. I'm just trying to understand the difference, for my own education.

From the EXIF, it looks like both were f/5.6, ISO 100, and 1/3 second. Since it says white balance was set to "Auto", I'm guessing that the slightly lower exposure of the second one (sun moved back behind the clouds?) fooled the auto white balance into thinking that the light was "cooler" than it actually was, and it shifted to a more-orange setting to compensate.

You know, the more I look at these two, the more I'm growing to like the second one better than the first. However, the similarities and contrasts between them make the *set* even better to my mind than either image alone. It might be worthwhile to mat these next to one another in a single, double-wide frame.

Here's one I shot last year. One with ambient light from the window and the other with the shades drawn and bounced flash. Shot with an Oly SP570UZ.
