Olympus Firmware Update Enhances E-P1's Functionality with Panasonic Lenses

Today Olympus is pleased to announce a firmware update for the Olympus E-P1 that will allow the camera to operate more effectively with the following Panasonic lenses:
>> Panasonic Micro Four Thirds lens LUMIX G VARIO 14-140mm/F4.0-5.8. This update increases the stability of performance between the body and lens.
>> Panasonic Micro Four Thirds lens LUMIX G VARIO 14-45mm/F3.5-5.6. This update improves auto focus performance for still and motion picture recording, improves the stability of optical image stabilization during motion picture recording, and decreases audible noise during the operation of adjusting the aperture when in motion picture recording.

The ability to update the firmware in E-System components -- bodies, lenses, flash units -- is one of the key advantages of a 100% digital design. Firmware updates are available through Olympus Master and Olympus Studio software applications.

The firmware can be updated through Olympus Master 2 software.

It's interesting that they are offering a firmware update for a camera which has yet to be released to the public ... !!

I think they just want to show how really serious they are about this camera!

I hope and think that it will be great success for Olympus, as well as a lot of photographers using it!

So do I. It's as close to my camera dream as anything I've seen since 2002. The only thing it's missing is the EVF that the G1 has.. together these two cameras constitute a whole new generational change to my shooting kit.

I have my "SLR & RF" combo kit back finally, and this time they even share lenses.

If truly so, they will rush out a fix to allow x10 live-view to be assigned to the Fn key for instant use with legacy MF lenses ( or did I miss something in the manual ? )

The GH1 is available in Japan, so I assume that it is very good move for Olympus to get it early here.
The MF lenses with 10x zoom would be nice. But we will see.
