Default Public Recognition for the E3!

Year of theTiger!
American Photo had an article recently about John Isaac, a former UN Chief Photographer, on a special project in a tiger reserve in India for an upcoming book.

The author quotes - The content were shot mainly with two E-3 bodies and the Zuiko 300mm f/2.8 ED or the 50-200mm f2.8-3.5 ED.

In a quote John states "Lately, I have been shooting almost everything handheld, sometime resting the camera on a friend's shoulder."
He adds "it lets me react more quickly, and the in-camera stabilization keeps everything really sharp"!!

The author of the article adds - some photographers don't beleive that Isaac (display was at Hotchkiss School's Termains gallery) gets such sharp results without a tripod....

Well probably - they do not realize the full potential of a E-3 either!

I do something very similar. Except instead of using a friend's shoulder I keep my E-3 mounted with a flash bracket then shoot with my body at an angle to my head, so that I can rest the bracket on my own shoulder. It makes an incredible difference in the stability of the camera, especially when lugging around a heavy E-3, telephoto lens, and lights all day and your muscles start to worn down towards the end.

Could you please post a pic of what you mean?

I use the E3 and I have a older E510. I always use these cams with IS activated because I have one arm only. (lost the other in a motorcar accident).

At some point I read a post that the IS in the E3 is not that good and in fact it oft results in shake. I think it was one of those typical Oly has so many issues posts but still it always left a "be aware" thought in my mind...

Then recently my wife and me bought the E450 for her. Lovely camera, I was walking taking test pictures and just trying the cam in general.

When home I downloaded the pics and were really disappointed, they almost all had a blurry look and thus not really great. It was only after a while that I realized BUT its the IS most probably....

Went out again the next day and really took care of camera shake. Home I downloaded and checked the pics were sharp and exactly what I expected...

All I can say is I became so used to my way of shooting that I did not even realize what a awesome job the IS was doing in the background....

Best

Siegfried

I'll let him hand hold the 300 f2.8 all he wants. He's more up to the task than I am.

I use a monopod when I'm up and mobile, and a tripod/gimbal when I'm going to be stationary most of the time. That's the 300 f2.8.

The 50-200 got its tripod mount removed when I unpacked the lens years ago, and hasn't been re-installed since.

Yes, for me the all-day-comfortably-holdable-without-a-monopod line comes just after the 50-200 and just before the 150 f2.
I couldn't imagine what the 300 f2.8 is like for a long day's shooting (but I might actually find out one day because the UK E-system user group has one you can rent for surprisingly reasonable rates )
