Re: Some leaked out photo of m43
As expected it has a retro look.
- It looks OK although it looks slightly thicker than I expected (but scrutinizing the images it appears to be ~35+25 mm for body and lens, respectively which ain't that bad).
- Why do Olympus insist on making all those ledges and kinks in the top plate (as with the E-3)? Dust is aggregated there which looks untidy and it may eventually escape into the chamber.
- It doesn't appear to have as many controls as I'd expect on an enthusiast camera.
- Video, art filters, and scene modes ar no surprises.
- Very good with PASM on the dial - hopefully MF/AF also has a dedicated switch/toggle button somewhere.
I wish they'll come out with another more serious body as well. To me, featuring PASM+video, EV-comp., AF/MF switch, IS, shock protection, and weather sealing should be enough. Call it the E-A1 as in "Adventure".
Cheers, Jens.

Re: Some leaked out photo of m43
I like it! The size looks very similar to this:
The Pen EE is 32 mm thick plus 16 mm for the lens. I hope for the same thickness of the body. It should be possible.
But I wonder if there is no increment/decrement wheel. Maybe the wheel beneath the PASM dial works as increment/decterment normally and changes the PASM only when you push the PASM dial from the top and turn the wheel sumultaneously? That would be a good solution.

It looks like there is a small thin switch on the right side (1st picture). Its probably like a W/T switch on typical compacts.

I see now. There is probably a wheel in the grip area, just below the E-P1 logo. You can see a black part there in the side view.

Re: Some leaked out photo of m43
I guess there is a thumb wheel under the E-P1 logo for aperture setting.
But as Jens said, I do not like the top panel look. the mock up is better, sems Olympus want the PEN reborn as Digital PEN, a burden on designer.

Re: Some leaked out photo of m43
According to 43rumors, there will be a new flash too, FL-14, with remote control.
At the E-P1 spy photo, there is no built in flash, so the FL-14 would be an add on flash for general purpose and can be use as a remote commander as well.

Re: Some leaked out photo of m43
I got wednesday a new lens to my Pen FT... and I originally took the picture totally different purposes, but here's how world has changed...

In front is the Pen Zuiko 20/3.5, in back the Pen Zuiko 150/4 and attached to Pen FT, Pen Zuiko 38/1.8.
Sorry all U.S. based ppl had to be happy with 2 Euro coin comparison as I don't have any U.S. Coins. (used to have quater dollar, but I have lost it somehow.)
and yes, the 20/3.5 is really small. almost tiny.

A 2 Euro coin is roughly 1 inch in diameter.
There is an PEN F/m43 adapter coming ....

That's a picture of jinfinance's Pen F adaptor, taken from one of his eBay auctions.
Excellent build quality and works very well with my Pen F lenses attached to my G1. In fact I ordered a second one.

I did notice that there's adapters coming. (which I really hoped for... as I really like the 38/1.8. it is a really nice lens.)
So though I am unsure IF and when I am going to buy µ-4/3 camera, I still should buy the adapter?

To my way of thinking, this camera is NOT supposed to be an "enthusiast" camera. I would have expected it to be a camera that attracts non enthusiasts (non DSLR owners) to a small, interchangeable lens camera. It looks exactly like it should fit that bill.
The lens looks like exactly the sort of "pancake" you would need if you were going out with just the camera in your pocket. There would be another zoom (small 14-42mm??) with another kit as well, I would think.
I suspect that Olympus will release a much more enthusiast rated camera by the end of the year.

Here' s a pic of the Pen F-adaptor attached to my 40/1,4. The other lenses are the 38/1,8, 70/2 (with LC-43 lens cap) and the 100/3,5 with a original Pen F lens hood (metal).

Paid 80,- Euros for the adaptor (express shipping) and it was delivered within 5 days.
Buy one. The lenses are a joy to use on the G1.

Re: Some leaked out photo of m43
I don't like the design - it looks half baked to me.
Judging by the matte top plate, they obviously want it to look smaller than it actually is. I can understand that desire but it looks like they just put that retro-looking top onto an already modernly designed body... ...and that polished silver ledge... [shudder]
I'm sure it will look better in real life than the impression I get of these two images which we don't even know if they are the final thing.
Cheers, Jens.

Re: Some leaked out photo of m43
The top cap with the retro look is not in harmony with the body, looks like the grip and the lens mount surface is flat, how come an oval shaped top cap will looks good on a straight lined body? and the strap eyes position also not making sense ..........

Re: Some leaked out photo of m43
Anybody like to wager how long it will take for the bitching to start about losing the flash shoe cover?
I think it looks terrific (sure makes sense of the heavy Pen anniversary promotion they are doing at the moment), although I hope Oly come out with their G1 equivalent soon, or at least something with a viewfinder.

Re: Some leaked out photo of m43
The biggest thing in my head is that this camera looks small. That is the promise of micro 4/3rds. It looks roughly the same size as my LX3 which makes it very appealing as a pocket cam.

Re: Some leaked out photo of m43
I don't know about LX3 sized, Neil. It's definitely bigger than the LX3. I'd say it's at least as big as a G10, if not bigger. (IMHO)
