Yeah, Leica made a mirrorbox addon for the M series so you could use lenses over 135.
But I think you could use an OVF up to the 42mm end of the kit lens OK. After that it's LCD or EVF.

You know I thought of that years ago when I had my first Olympus P&S a C200 and it had a postage stamp LCD which was pretty bad. I thought then of a set of goggles that would view the picture with information on the side. Maybe now its time has come

Looks slick, and slightly smaller than the E-P1. One of the other pictures floating around shows it side-by-side with the 20mm and the 45mm macro. Hopefully that means it's all real.

Re: Rumor: E-P2 in the works? With a VF?
Yep, I'm willing to buy the legitimacy of the annotated shots floating about. Popup flash (definitely there) and plug-in evf (not verified) would make it nearly perfect. In-body IS (not gonna happen) would make it perfect.
Now: get us our lenses, folks!
Cheers,
Rick

... Panasonic seems to be pushing things too
new sneak photos of a Lumix GF1 model surfaced today.
I think I'm going to be quite happy. There seems to be provision for a clip-on EVF as well... Look at the port under the hot-shoe on the middle image:

Nice. But I prefer the look of the E-P1. I also prefer in-body IS over clip-on EVF. And black cameras are more complicated...
I take the Panasonic 20 over Olympus 17 though.

Re: Rumor: E-P2 in the works? With a VF?
It looks with the rumored E-P2 due before the end of the year and the Panny GF1 pictures surfacing it may be a difficult decision what to get myself this coming holiday season!
Now, remind me, when are the big photo expositions going to be?

Re: Rumor: E-P2 in the works? With a VF?
They've made a larger version of the LX2/LX3.
As I suggested, I'd say the Pen v2 will have a similar EVF capability, as there's really no where you could add an EVF and retain the small size. Interestingly, it has a HDMI and a remote socket, but no mention of a USB socket.
I still don't care for the pop up flash, I also don't understand why no one can make a small flash (say the size of the Olympus Pen OVF) that draws power from the camera body. At least this would alow you a very small flash that would be more practical than a pop up.
Cheers

I'm hoping they put the same type of articulated mechanism they used in the LC1 and L1 into it. The bounce or direct flash capability of the L1 means it's the ONLY in-camera flash unit I ever use.
Panasonic L1 + ZD 25/2.8, flash bounce off wall to the left
I don't care about "very small flash units" so much as useful ones. The built-in on the L1 is useful ... I've not found too many others as useful. The tiny Nikon SB30 is also useful, and I'm glad it doesn't draw down the camera battery!

Re: Rumor: E-P2 in the works? With a VF?
I agree about the L-1's flash design--- brilliant. But I guess the camera was such a dismal failure in the marketplace that everyone associated with it was fired and the camera plans were burned. Things like this drive me crazy. It's as if the companies stumble over a good design and then pick themselves up and carry on as if nothing had happened. Why do I have a bunch of different cameras? This is why.
The GF1 looks good. With the 20/1.7 as a normal and the 7-14 to handle wide duties I might have my Leica-killer if the AF speed and shot-to-shot times don't disappoint.

I suspect Panasonic never intended or considered pushing the L1 as a volume seller at all. The idiotic review press didn't do it any favors either. A shame ... it's a far better camera than anything I read about it would lead one to believe.
The good news is that I have two of them, and I'm not letting go of 'em either. ;-)

Presuming that the GF1 has the same AF system as the G1 (and no reason to think it doesn't), its AF speed will be very good with the Panasonic and Olympus mFT lenses. Not that I'm particularly sensitive to AF speed, mind you ... I use manual focus a heck of a lot of the time. ;-)

Re: Rumor: E-P2 in the works? With a VF?
Godfrey
I've never used the Pansonic L1, so I don't know anything about the flash. What I do hate are the generally useless one's that tend to be put on cameras that are completely inneffective for other than P&S style lighting. I have serious reservations about the one that is depicted in these shots, it will be exactly like that on the LX2/LX3; partially functional, but more like having a sixth finger.
I mean, exactly what goes into the pop up flash on the E3? Where are the electronics? The same goes for the flashes in a P&S cameras. I don't know why no one has ever come out with a small, basic, flash that is about the size of a match box or maybe something slightly larger than a D cell battery. I think it's absolutely feasible, thye battery technology is there, the flash heads are already practically microscopic, and the electronics needn't provide fancy TTL etc.
Cheers
