Default Wireless dongle for E-3?

I notice that the E-3 has a standard mini USB output socket. Are there any wireless dongles that can be plugged in to transfer pictures, either WiFi or Bluetooth?

I don't think so, at least I have never heard of any I know with certain Nikons they make a device for wireless transmitting, it looks like a grip extention and it's not cheap either.

Nope. The closest you can get is an Eye-fi card with a SD->CF adapter. However, from reading comments on it, the newer Eye-fi cards don't work, and if you find one of the older 2GB cards, it is JPG only, and the range is greatly reduced when using the SD->CF converter.

There used to be a rather expensive gadget (wi-pics) that used a belt setup, with a thin wire connecting the camera to the belt unit, which would then use Wifi to upload the files. The company was bought out a few years ago, and the products don't seem to be in active development.

This would not be a convenient solution, (not designed for photography) but it should work. You could use a USB over IP host adapter, to allow USB communication over a Ethernet network. You could also use a WiFi bridge to connect it to a wireless network. You'd also need to convert each device to work with batteries, which shouldn't be too difficult as they natively take DC power. They might fit in your pockets, but a large vest or small backpack would be ideal. This set of devices would allow you to shoot over WiFi, and the E-3 and computer would both think they were plugged in directly. You have a theoretically unlimited range, relying on your wireless infrastructure. If they made one, battery powered, device that does this, it would be a lot simpler, but I'm not sure if they do.

Actually, you could use a netbook.

There are people who have done it VIA wireless USB, but I don't think anyone has had any luck with Oly. http://petetek.blogspot.com/2009/05/...-solution.html
