This is an optional focusing screen with 12 grid lines (7 vertical, 5 horizontal) for the E-1. It divides the field of view into 48 squares as shown above.

I\'m using the grid sreen for a while now on the E1 and love that kind o of sceen since good ol days with my OM-4.
I used to shoot lots of architecture (shift lenses) and also find it very helpful when shooting landscapes with sea or other \"big waters\" in the viefinder - helps to keep the horizon even. :P

I find this screen to be very helpful especially with composition, ie the rule of thirds and keeping horizins straight.

Had the similar screen for my OM2 before going digital, and it was one of the first accessories i bought for my E1.

This works very well as a general use screen, with additional composition aids to getting horizons and verticals where they should be, and helping with 1/3 composition as well...
In normal use, the fine ground lines do not really intrude on your vision, so I leave it in permanently.

I like it because the lines are not bothering the general aspect of the picture while they can be quite helpful for composing mosaics when I need extra high resolution shots. It seems to be a little darker than the standard FS1.

Will one of these fit an E-500?

No, this is focusing screen ONLY for E1.

You can try to buy focusing screen from 3rd party (KatzEyeOptics http://www.keoptics.com/) which are mostly split prism, and they can have custom line etching.
