I really like mine because if the greatly improved flash cycle time. It also impresses my customers when I walk in with this huge flash rig for taking insurance photos.

On the downside, the thing is fragile. If you drop it or strain it, the rotating flash head starts to go wobbly and has to be sent in to Olympus service for repair. This has happened to me twice already. Make sure you take the flash off whenever it's not in use.

The other weakness is that it doesn't have a locating pin to keep the E-1 from rotating on the bracket. It's really hard to get the thumbwheel tight enough to prevent camera rotation.

I also enjoy the increase in recycle times I get from the grip with my FL-50. I also had the same problem with the head going wobbly after some use but I was still in warranty, so Olympus simply replaced it.

I shoot with the E-500 and E-510. It should be noted (since internet retailers don't tell you this) that the shutter trigger on the grip will only operate the E-1 - E-3. For the rest of us you if you leave the grip as boxed you have an awkward reach from the grip to the shutter trigger on your camera having to extend one finger to the camera body. This can get tiring if you shoot steady for an hour or two. But once I read the fine print in the documentation that came with the grip I learned that you can rotate the head 180 degrees on the grip. It will then mount so that your non-grip hand is on the right hand side of the camera.

One other thing that some internet retailers sites make unclear is that pictures of the product show it with a leather strap on the grip handle. This is actual a $40 option.

All and all if you are going to be shooting parties or other events where you would like a rapid recycle time, this grip will accomplish that and get your flash off the body. It also slows the FL-50 from eating batteries quite so fast.

I am personally pleased with the purchase.
