Well summer is here (for most of us...) and well I have been spending a lot of time "outside" So that is the theme of this month's contest. Outside - can be just out of the house or if you are taking any vacations this month. So be creative!

File Uploads:
You can place the photos in this thread and I will put them all together at the end of the contest.

Or You can upload them to this gallery. (http://43photo.smugmug.com/gallery/3082886) username: tony@fourthirdsphoto.com password: outside please link them back here, and make sure that you include in the comments your username and title.

Rules:
1- follow all of sites rules.
2- only 1 post per person
3- shot must be in the month of the contest. (Please include EXIF info)
4- a title is nice to include with your photo.

The top 4 contributers will be entered into the 43photo photographer of the year contest.
Also to help sweeten the pot. If there are more than 25 entries, we will not only give away software by media chance, we will also give away a free year of smugmug. (The top voted member gets first choice on what he wants) But remember we need at least 25 people in the contest for 2 prizes.
In addition, this month we will also give-a-way a free Olympus Studio 2.0 license!!
This event is sponsered by media chance and the winner will get to pick from one of these following prizes:
http://fourthirdsphoto.com/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=3861&d=1171179920
Each winner will recieve a pick from one of these three prizes:
PhotoBrush (http://mediachance.com/pbrush/index.html):
PhotoBrush is an image editor, natural and artistic media painting program, picture retouching tool, photo enhancer and Image Browser for Windows OS. Accept usual range of image formats including RAW files!

http://www.mediachance.com/hdri/title.jpg (http://www.mediachance.com/hdri/index.html)
Dynamic Photo HDR (http://www.mediachance.com/hdri/index.html)
My photo is not what I remembered?
Many times you see a beautiful scene and of course you take a picture! The result is often far from being the magical scene you remember.
Our eyes are very adaptive and they are also more sensitive to intensity than color. It is estimated that our eye can see over a dynamic range of nearly 24 f-stops while a digital camera can capture a dynamic range around 6 to 9 f-stops. See this gallery for examples! (http://www.mediachance.com/hdri/gallery.html)

DCE AutoEnhance (http://mediachance.com/dce/index.html):
DCE AutoEnhance is an automatic photo enhancer and batch processor. This application will help you with the time consumingjob of adjusting and enhancing your daily digital images in a whole new and smart way. Primarily targeted to JPEG files with EXIF but accept also RAW files!

PureImage (http://mediachance.com/pureimage/index.html):
PureImage is our newest addition to the digital camera tools. Wavelet based Noise Reduction and Color Matching application that uses the latest research in image processing. Also this application supports usual range of image formats and RAW files!

Multimedia Builder (http://mmb.mediachance.com/index.html):
Windows-based multimedia authoring system allows you to create autorun CD menus, Multimedia Applications on CD-ROM, Demos, Presentations, MP3 players and much, much more.

RealDraw (http://mediachance.com/realdraw/index.html):
First time in just one drawing package you have the power to combine vector, 2D, 3D and bitmap editing into totally new level, where one form seamlesly transforms into another.
Real-DRAW sets a whole new standard in vector editing.

Happy shooting!

Shot on July second at a local beach. Lumix L1 1/125 at f8, ISO 100, AP. No post processing. I had photographed this staircase about a year ago with a Minolta point and shoot and liked the image, but the quality did not permit much enlargement. This is my first contest entry.

Nothing says "Outside" to me like a pano above treeline. This one is in IR, taken from the overlook at Forest Canyon, Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park, along Trail Ridge Rd http://rmnp.com/RMNP-Areas-TrailRidge.HTML, the highest continuous road in the U.S. (highest paved road is at Mt. Evans, also in CO). Longs Peak (14,255 ft., 4345m) is at the far left, Mt. Ida on the right. The peaks in between are in the 12,000' range.

Best to view this one against a dark background.

E-300, 14-45 @ 25mm, Hoya R72 filter
Each exposure 1.5" @ f8.

My first ever entry. Not 100% sure about the sizing. Taken very near my home in an area called Powick Hams. Hams is, I believe, old English for "near water" and this area is where the River Teme flows into the River Severn.
It is also where the first major skirmish and the last battle of the English Civil War took place. The world's first combined steam/hydro electric power station is here too.

Peter,

I love the texture of this shot but have to query the inclusion of the tiled roof in with the two thatched ones. my intial reaction was 'nice contrast' but eventually I came to feel it intruded on the otherwise timeless scene you were portraying.

Many reviewers mentioned Olympus bodies are not suited for sporting events but they are quite okay. It was not so long ago photographers had manual focusing lenses and winders getting about 3fps... They are off course not on par with submachinecams such as Canons or Nikons but when lighting conditions are ok, Olys can do the job quite well.

I covered this ultimate frisbee tournament with the 14-54mm and the 40-150mm (my 50-200 was not arived yet) on an E-1 and a borrowed E-300. The ultimate frisbee game is held on a soccer field and the 40-150 is a little short but as long as you are free to walk on the sidelines and can predict where action will go, there is no need for an heavy supertele.

Now the shot

RIP (green) versus Geckos (red jersey)

Qualification tournament for ultimate frisbee nationals, held in Sherbrooke (Québec), July 8th.

-Evolt E-300
-No crop
-40-150mm @150mm f/8
-ISO400
-1/1250th sec (speed priority chosen to have roughly between f/6,3 and -f/11 for enough depth of field and compensate for slow focusing)
-Exposure mode spot
-Exposure compensation of -0.7
-Shot in jpeg, best quality.
-Auto WB
-No saturation boost, no sharpness alteration. Stock settings.
-No filter on the lens
-Handheld shot

-No Photoshop processing except resizing to 1000 X 750.

I am pleased with jpeg results; even if I shoot raw 99% of the time, the consistency of images is better than I would have expected. (Although, in some shots, WB had to be changed)

This is both my first time posting to this site and the first time entering a contest like this. If I do something wrong with entering my photo, please let me know how I can fix it.

This picture was taken at Arches National Park in Moab, Utah. It was dusk and the sun was below the horizon of the mountain that we were on. When we took this picture, we thought we were taking a picture of "just" a huge rock formation. It wasn't until the picture was uploaded that I saw the silhouette of a beautiful angel. This picture has not been touched up or edited except for a possible edit (I uploaded the picture several months ago and cropped some but not others, so I may have cropped this but it is possible I didn't, if that makes any sense).

Normally July on Vancouver Island is pleasant. Soft winds, sunny skies, moderate temperatures. The weekend I was there we had rain that even would make Noah sit up and take notice, winds touching 60 kts and very little sun.

This is pretty well straight out of the 510.

I was at my fathers summer cottage when
this juvenile "Ficedula Hypoleuca" left her nest bravely to the

E-300, 1/160s, ISO-200, F/5, 40-150@150mm.

I think the most appropriate name for it is
"Outside"
