Here is a site that may be worthy of a sticky somewhere:

http://www.danheller.com/model-release.html

Lots of good information, but I'm not sure how correct it is.

I submitted a model release for some photos, and was told it was missing a witness signature...I thought the witness sig was only required for minors. Is this not the case? Thank you.

I think there are different rules in different countries. In Norway, you only need a signature from a parent when the model is a minor.

Where were you submitting the images to? This wouldn't have anything to do with copyright law, but rather that publication or company's policy. I'm pretty sure there's no kind of law (in North America anyways) stating that a signature on any kind of paperwork is not a valid signature or sign of acknowledgement, unless there is a witness signature beside it. That sort of thing is policy, not law.

That said, if you are making a model release form... please do include a witness signature area. The law may not require it, but many places you try to submit your photos to may. In particular, stock agencies. ;)
