On Saturday was our Annual Christmas Parade, and as I was walking down to the parade to see Cody riding on the fire truck the local newspaper asked me to photograph the parade, because of technical issues. #1) I wasn't really prepared to do that. I only had the kit 12-60mm, and #2) I only had 2 CF cards. So I told them no problem, and told my wife that I would meet them at the end of the route.

Nice series and it is good to hear your experience. Looks like a typically lovely winter V.C. day. :)

Excellent feedback and blog entry... some nice shots too. You did a good job mixing it up. On a side note, what do newspapers normally pay for stuff like this? How much "reporting" do they ask... getting details of the event?

Thanks for sharing your real-world experiences.

Um... Not a whole lot. Really, I have abandoned the whole paid to shoot arena. I always thought that was what I wanted to do, but to tell the truth. When it was a paid job (I made great money, weddings, catalogs, travel, etc ) I didn't enjoy it. So I just do favors now, and am quite happy to help out where I can. So this was a special request, and did it for fun.

Would I consider doing it again? Sure, but really I only shoot part time. 2-3 weddings a year, a couple special assignments, etc.

But for a town like fillmore - Probably $20-40. Larger newspapers $200 for a 1 day thing at most.
