Hi all,

The theme for July 2008 is "Seasonal".
The contest runs from the 1st - 31st.

Please reduce your entry to 800 pixels in width and upload it to this album:
http://43photo.smugmug.com/gallery/5311116_8tdsB
The username is: 43photo
The password is:4thofjuly

For those north of the equator I figure that we will have a lot of sumer fun pictures. In the US maybe fireworks, etc. South of the Equator It is cold and wet, so I didn't want to call it just summer. But Seasonal shots will be expected. Have fun all.

The photo must be taken in the month of the contest. You are allowed to submit one (1) photo. Although, if you change your mind and want to submit a different one we can remove the one previously submitted in the gallery. Some have expressed wanting to wait until the end of the month to submit theirs and that is fine. the Photo also must be from a 4/3 SLR camera - Which includes but not limited to the Olympus E-3, E-1, E-300, E-330, E-400, E-410, E-420, E-500, E-510, E-520, Panasonic L-1, L-10, etc.

It would be nice if your entry have a title. Please make sure the exif info is attached to the photo. If you don't include your username with the photo, please pm me so I know who it belongs to.

The entries will be judged according to these criteria:
Subject: Does the subject fit the theme?
Creativity: How effectively/dramatically/interestingly is the subject presented?
Composition: Has the subject been composed appropriately/interestingly?
Lighting: Has lighting been used appropriately/effectively for the subject?
Technical: Has the subject been exposed, focussed, etc appropriately/correctly?1st place and 2nd place winners will each have a choice of one of the prizes below. There will also be two who place 3rd and 4th, and they will have a chance at the end of the year for the Photographer of the Year.

Hi
As a newbie wanting to enter the July comp, I got thrown a bit when smugmug's login screen requested an email address.
I almost sent you a question about how to get in, but tried just giving it the "43photo" and it was all good.
For others that may not intuit their way thru as I did, could you please massage your instructions page wording to clarify that people should put 43photo in the "email" field?

Thanks
Michael

If you are logged into the gallery you can edit the caption. I went a head and did that for you.

Which member does this photo belong to?

I could not think of anything more appropiate to enter than a photo of fireworks and I really like the one I entered but it's kind of a given that everybody takes pictures of fireworks on the 4 of July. I don't know if it will be what the judges want in a photo contest. Can more than one photo be entered in the a contest?

Only one photo can be entered in the monthly contests. In some respects it would be nice to be able enter more, but then perhaps that would impose an unfair burden on the judging panel.

Don,
If you have another you'd rather enter, I think if you PM Tony, he can pull the first one for you.

There is some stiff competition this month isnt there?

Thanks Jim,

For now I think I'll leave it unless I shoot something better. I really like the shot but I thought I might hedge my bet a little with something different.

I've gone through all the steps for uploading from CS2 Bridge, to where I get the upload bar (briefly). It goes away within two seconds, and my image never shows up in the album. Any suggestions? Thanks,

Diana

Wow- great entries so far everyone.

I'll need to review the month and find a strong one to enter.

Don't forget that if you have a smugmug account you need to log out, then log back in again with Tony's info. Put tony@fourthirdsphoto.com into the blank "email:" box.

I've uploaded these last few entries into the album already.:)

Added Baby Cone. Just like last month, most of the exif was stripped. Picture was taken on the 28th. I can send the original .ORF if anyone needs confirmation.

So many good submissions this month!

The judges are deliberating and we'll have some winners soon. It's been especially difficult, but I'm hoping we'll have the winners by tomorrow.
