When I consider how my light is spent ere half my days in this dark world and wide...
- John Milton

Reflections are all around us, in many different ways. Windows, water, mirrors and metal are abundant sources of reflections, but there is no end to the variety of images that can be made from them. Just watch out for the Pretty trap: it's easy to get caught up in the idea and forget to make a good photograph. For this assignment, look for creative ways to use reflections, and share your successes and your lessons with us.

I haven't really done this before so I hope I do this right. This is an image I took for another site and the idea was goofy and did not turn out right. I wanted to capture a look of surprise and ended up with something a little bizarre lol.

Posting the link to the photo because I cannot figure out how to post the photo :( I guess I need a different image hosting source to do that then?

No, just need to figure out what the actual image URL is and then click on picture button and paste that URL in.

Nice image. You did capture the "look of surprise".

Thanks for your reply John! I think I got it now. I never would have thought to look for the image URL duh. Learn something new every day. Thanks for looking too :)

Just something I shot the other day at the lake. Hidden reflections are best can you find the sunset?

At a car show on the streets of Grass Valley, California last April, I came upon an Indian motorcycle parked on a side street. The brick walls of historic buildings from gold mining days were given a twisted new life.

Reflections is one of the things i loved to photograph so i'll share a few old ones until i'll fix my E-510.

sometimes you can spend up to an hour on a single puddle.

http://Assafx.smugmug.com/photos/246076537_oQ4Zj-L-2.jpg

sometimes only changing an angle can make an illusion:
http://Assafx.smugmug.com/photos/246076676_sY6XH-M-2.jpg

small pools or water basins like this one, in morocco, are an excellent source:
http://Assafx.smugmug.com/photos/227428454_qnGPd-L-1.jpg

now that i have a car and i don't drive the bus that much i will miss shots such as this:
http://Assafx.smugmug.com/photos/189214134_F9Bwg-L-1.jpg

but a parking scooter is always a good source:

hope it wasn't too much.

Vandy,
your last 3 shots are really really good, my favorite is the one before the last.

Tony, the Arrow's reflection is Brilliant.

Holy, wonderful shot, have you tried also a tighter crop on this one?

Bill, i loved the rain drops reflections, what lens were you using?

Assaf, I assume you mean Bob, what lens were you using... I was using the 35mm Macro + EC-14 (49mm) and It was still raining when I was outside. I just had to be careful and keep the lens dry.

Really love the #4 Illusion version of your puddle reflection.

Vandy - #3 Bridge reflection is really good - I just love the mood of this shot.

Bob,
i'm sorry about that huge mistake, i was just reading bill's post about the raw file before :(
thanks for letting me know your lens configuration. when i tried to do the same with the 50mm macro, i felt like i'm coming short all the time. i completely forgot about the EC-14.

Thanks !

I really like this picture, but, aside from the bright spots of light, are we seeing reflection or refraction in the apparent objects in the water drops? Refraction would make a very good assignment or contest. Anyway, it's a neat picture.

There are all wonderful. I especially liked the 4th one because of the illusion effect and the last one for the colors. Well done.

Dale - it is actually reflections of other nearby flowers - the actual plant is literally covered with Flowers and it was a case of choosing which ones to try and find that were mostly isolated. Thanks for your comments.

This is one of the first shots with my 410 taken in Jan:

I think it fits the assignment. Hopefully I can get out and shoot some specifically for this assignment soon. Reflections can be fun.

Assaf
I did a little but I am stuck on how the water ripple came out on the bottom right and just could not get a crop to fit the things I liked right. I do have this one it was taken at the same time right before the ripples. I cropped it some.

Holy,
i see the problem and i must say that the cropped version is also very good.

Johannes,
i really liked your shot, i loved the play of round lines and straight lights in and outside of the reflection.
