August Photo Contest - Hidden Subject

Greetings,

The theme for August 2008 is "Hidden Subject". Here (http://scenicphotos4u.smugmug.com/photos/343384250_8byAu-M.jpg) is a sample, but the subject(s) can be anything. This is a chance to use your imagination and be creative.

The contest runs from the 1st - 31st, and is closed out the following day to allow for any entries taken during the 31st.

Please reduce your entry to 800 pixels in width.

If you have a smugmug account, please log out, then in again with the above username/password.

The photo must be taken in the month of the contest. You are allowed to submit one (1) photo. You can resubmit another one, but be sure to include your username again and PM me so I can remove the one previously submitted entry. Some have expressed wanting to wait until the end of the month to submit theirs and that is fine.

It would be nice if your entry has a title. Please make sure the exif info is attached to the photo. It must also be from a 4/3 SLR camera, which includes (but not limited to) the Olympus E-3, E-1, E-300, E-330, E-400, E-410, E-420, E-500, E-510, E-520, Panasonic L-1, L-10, etc.

The entries will be judged according to these criteria:

Subject: Does the subject fit the theme?



Creativity: How effectively/dramatically/interestingly is the subject presented?



Composition: Has the subject been composed appropriately/interestingly?



Lighting: Has lighting been used appropriately/effectively for the subject?



Technical: Has the subject been exposed, focussed, etc appropriately/correctly?

1st place and 2nd place winners will each have a choice of one of the prizes below. There will also be two who place 3rd and 4th, and they will have a chance at the end of the year for the Photographer of the Year.

This may be a dumb question, but it's been a while since I participated. Is cropping allowed? I assume editing with Photoshop isn't, but I got a nice shot with a bit more of the surrounding background than I wanted and I'd like to crop to focus on the subject. Just wanted to know if I can. . .

Thanks guys. Sorry it took so long in answering. Well there are a number of ways to "hide" your subject, so we can't say one way is the only way. That's where creativity comes into play. : )

Yes, post-processing is allowed. Just try to keep your exif info embedded so we can see when it was taken. If you cannot get it to do that, then PM me and I can help.

I just submitted mine. It is a 9 image HDR stack of 1 frame in PSP X2 so the exif was lost.

I uploaded the individual frames at the different exposere values at my PBase account so you can see the exif so you know it's a 4/3rds camera taken in the month of August.

Oh, and it looks like I mispoke on the shutter speed on the smugmug upload, I tried so many different ones that night, it was at 1 second.

I uploaded a file I named masquerade but the exif info isn't there? I exported the image into photoshop from lightroom2 and set the size to 800 wide and saved it as a png.

My first attempt.
