Judges' comments

#26 "Young Bulls" by Hudsonhites.

"Wonderful B/W treatment of a summer scene on the beach. Captures the shimmering glare of a day at the beach as the young bulls posture and strut for the elusive "chicks". (Now, if they ever hooked up with one, it remains to be seen what they'd do with one)"

"An outstanding black and white shot of young guys at the beach. The only thing I wish was that there will be less people and more see on the background but you can't have it all. Wonderful candid and I wish I had another vote."

"I selected 26 for the excellent B&W, but also for the subject matter and composition. This photo tells many stories, as there is so much to look at in the photo, but the emphasis is on the three boys and one tries to picture what they are thinking about and what do they plan to do. The fact that they are on a beach is a given, it's the people that make the story."

"I think this shot tells a story. It's well composed and candid. Good use of 'black and white'. It might have been too distracting had it been in color. It makes me wonder what the boys are talking about. Comparing tans? Contemplating taking a plunge into the water?

#34 "Festival Night" by windsprite.

"A gentle soft shot with a perfect play of light and, wonderful colors. All of this made me think about a magical atmosphere and make me want to raise my head, up and see above their feet for more."

"Beautiful display of colors on kimonos of three women possible chatting among themselves, or getting ready for their seasonal festival at hand. It also makes me want to look up to see who is standing there in the gentle breeze."

#8 Ending of the day by Dara.

"Although I cannot tell what season this is, it displays some very beautiful colors."

"I find #8 as a well composed, beautiful shot but not original and unique as it should be."

#11 "Pebble Beach" by Zbahu.

"A very original and a smart shot, the beach is hinted both by the sand/shells/small pebbles and the OOF writing, the women passing by (I wish she was in a bathing suit) just makes the composition perfect."

"The comment above very much reflects my reasons for the choice of this image as #11. I think the photograph also has an interesting composition and excellent colour and contrast for the subject matter."

"#8 and #24 are worthy as well."

#35 "Small Town Summer Festival" by anwmn1.
"You can definitely feel the heat on this shot and feel the spray over your skin and face. Again what can I say with such a good selection of good shot?"

This was certainly a nice surprise! Many thanks, and congratulations to Hudsonhites and the other winners.

(If anyone wants to connect a face with the feet of one of the kimono girls, here (http://img363.imageshack.us/img363/641/p7262311700bwdesatchannak9.jpg) is a peek.)

Congratulations to all four! I especially like the runner up pictures... As said, the winner image captures the essence of a day at the beach therefore suits the theme marvelously!

Congratulations to Windsprite, Dara & Zhabu.

Thank you to the judges for your time and effort.

I spent a week deciding between color or B&W.

And you chose the correct option. IMO, colour just wouldn't have worked with the "Lords of Flatbush"

Good choice, B&W gives the image a timeless quality, it could have been taken 20 years ago and the new generations of young bulls will be posturing just like this in future years.

Congratulations to Windsprite and Dara too, great images.

I also second the thanks to the judges, not an easy task and as always the critical feedback is welcome.
