Assignment #30: The Kitchen

There are two wonderful things in photography: being near excellent photographic opportunities, and already having everything you need to take advantage of them.

For this assignment, look at what you have in the kitchen. Water drops, fruit, vegetables, glassware and flatware all make for classic subjects, and are all worth exploring. There's also a variety of different surfaces and textures, shapes and lines to create compositions with. Move things around, change your perspectives, and shoot whatever catches your eye. Any camera, any lens, and any light will do: see what you can create with what you already have where you already are.

For an advanced Photoshop class a couple years ago, I created an advertisement for an imaginary egg ranch. One of the images taken for the ad was of an egg frying in my kitchen:

I liked the following photo more because it shows steam rising from the frying pan. Unfortunately the steam made it difficult to remove the distracting back side of the griddle without interrupting the steam pattern, which is why I didn't use it in the ad:

If this had been a pro assignment I probably would have gone through dozens of eggs to get the perfect shot! This was the final version of my class assignment:

My daughter's first real cooking lesson. She did everything (under instructions) and the meal was delightful - traditional French coq au vin.

A good friend of mine Geoff Pederson hand builds kitchens. I went out armed with an E3 and 14-54. It was a challenge to get it all in without resorting to pana shots. I used a succession of shots like this mounting the 3 pany shots as a series which worked.
So this is "The Kitchen."

First post here, just poking through topics and found this thread. My submission is a vintage apple peeler that I have in a table centerpiece. I still use it, and it works well.

Olympus E-PL2 with 14-42 kit lens. Photoshop b/w conversion, no other editing.
