This challenge stems from a Discussion on beautifying photos with Photoshop. SO here we go: this is a picture I took of a work colleague who is "camera shy" because she doesn't like her appearance in photos. The challenge is to use Photoshop to enhance her natural beauty and post the result. It should be obvious, but the result has to look better than the original picture.

Alan

Here's my attempt. The big change is just to dodge and burn to reduce the contrast between the sides of the face. Then lightly blur some of the lines, and desaturate the teeth a bit.

Sorry. I cheated and used Portrait Professional to touch up the photo.

Here is my go, all with photoshop

Softened the skin
Removed yellow from teeth
Brightened the eyes
applied a curves adjustment for more contrast
converted to B&W using calculations method
applied sharpening
Reduced the image width by about 10%

Cheers
Carl

I like Carl's B&W

I like Carl's B&W

I don't really know what I expected, but I find all the results really interesting. Carl's is certainly remarkable - it seems to really catch the eye as a portrait. I don't mind Greg's "cheat" - any PP is fine.

Alan

The beauty was already there. All I had to do is lift the veil of a hard life.

I used Lightroom, it's all I've got.

Here's my take....I used Picasa. Retouched her skin, teeth, lips. Photo was converted to B&W and applied with soft focus......

Quite fun, here's my take at the challenge. I tried to do a glamour light tpuch up that still would keep her natural looks. Quick job in Photoshop, lot's of details ought to be done more carefully.

Mick, yours looks great! I think I overdid it in my take. Picasa does not give you that many options for this kind of processing.

Apart from playing around with softness etc the main thing that I did was to take some of the squareness out of the pupils and add a bit more sparkle to the eyes.

Hi again, thought I'd tweak it a bit more, mainly because what I'd done to the eyes in the first version didn't really show up when downloaded here.

This time I've also changed the lighting quite a bit. Great entertainment before I start work!

Used various Adjustment layers, Levels Hue / saturation to reduse redness, added some blur to reduce wrinkles. Overall sharpening, then sharpened the eyes and mouth a little more, the sharpening added quite a bit of noise so did some selective noise reduction, then cropped. Ernie
