Life in the Nest of Red-tailed Hawks (Includes Feeding)
Found this nest of a pair of Red-tailed Hawks and a couple of chicks. Their menu is usually high on the small rodents called voles, and did get a shot of the male bringing that item for breakfast. I was glad that the nest was down in a valley, so had a nice green background of grass, instead of a stark white sky that can so easily goof up exposure. Long shots and very windy, but I really enjoyed getting these.

Daniel, Yes, a treat it definitely was. So rare to get that kind of background. Thanks for the comment.

Many thanks for the encouraging words. I can even say that I, too, like how these turned out. --The 300/2.8 is one amazing lens!

Good shots. I like to look at such photos cause I like birds. Was it difficult to make these photos?

Thanks. Rather difficult, yes. Main thing is you have to be in a blind and spend lots of time to get feeding shots.

Wonderful series, and I agree about the background, really makes the hawks coloring stand out. I have turned the same shade of green as Daniel Bradley! How far away do you think you were?

Glad you like them! Distance: I suppose about 50 yards, but it's sort of hard to say. That first one is among my favorite shots.
