David,
Please tell me how you got the 4/3rds "300 F2.8 from Japan a couple of months ago for $2350." B&H has a couple used ones for around $4000.
Thanks,
The feather detail captured is amazing!
Dan,
Congratulations and the photos you posted are, indeed, sharp. Going to keep the Canon 400/5.6 now?
Thanks!
John
I've been away for awhile too. I am always impressed by the clarity and sharpness of your photos. Great camera, lens, and support system!
I was very, very fortunate to be with the right people (mostly birders and photo/birders) when the Least Bitterns were first sighted. Also, since the young were on one side of the trail and the...
Took these eagle this morning with the metabones adapter, 1.4tc II, and the 400/5.6 usm l with the old em-1. the metabones firmware version was 2.2.
I only got focused when they cleared the trees....
I love the gentle light on these birds. The colors and the details come out very nicely. Did you have enough time to focus on the birds's eye?
I have my windows 7 laptop still around so I will...
Thanks! I now have the lens and adapter. Been taking it out and learning how to use them. I take photos of the beaver marsh animals. My adapter has v2.2 firmware. My computer apparently does not...
I see an adapter in Amazon warehouse deals w/o manual and I see from the Metabones site that they have online manual info.
I went ahead and ordered it. Now to find the lens!
All,
Thanks for the advice so far. I assume then I would be ok with buying a used Metabones adapter?
Hello,
I have been following the discussions about the Metabones smart adapter and the canon 400/5.6 lens.
I now have some extra cash and am ready to buy something. Should I buy the items new or...
Dan,
I use the 75-300 II most of the time but the birds/mammals are either too small or too far away most of the time (even with the digital crop). I also use the 75-300 at f/8. I rented the...
It is tempting to go the way you have since the mFT 300/4 costs more than the Canon 400/5.6+metabones adapter.
Daniel,
Does the mark II work faster/better with the Canon+Metabones setup?
Thanks,

In the right light even the EPL-1 and the 75-300 II zoom can do very well.
Dan,
It sounds like you use the combo handheld most of the time. Good thing you saved f/w v2.1 as I don't see it on the metabones site.
Dan,
That web page says "Accurate only on newer cameras such as Panasonic G7, GX8 and GX80/85" but I understand from your postings that your technique with f/w 2.1 works well w/ the em-1.
...
Dan,
When you are not using your action finder are you using a tripod with gimbal head?
Dan,
Are there more than one version of the Canon 400/5.6? Is this with the Metabones smart adapter with the pdaf support?
Thanks,
John
I still have this lens. What camera was used?
John
The rear dial function was becoming more and more undependable on my em1. I had read that this is a known problem.
I sent my camera in for repair and received it back in 11 days as good as new! I...
Very nice.
This was back in June. I was renting the 300/4 lens. Set up on my old Bogen tripod in the woods on the river bank - focused on the nest until all the young eagles came back to their home nest. ...
