Thanks Michael, the image on the camera screen is actually very detailed for a Jpeg. Then I opened the RAW file in Oly Studio and zoomed right in without any processing. There is detail there about...

Thanks Michael and Rich,
In camera I'm saving the image as RAW + LSF jpeg.
I opened the RAW file in Olympus Studio, and converted it to 16 bit TIFF, using default options, and then viewed in PS.
I...
I hope there is a simple answer to this.
I'm using an E-620 body with a Zeiss 500/8 mirror lens attached.
I'm focusing on a fence line in full sunlight maybe a couple of Km away.
With live view...
Hi John,
I know nothing about the Metabones adapter, or even the Canon lens, apart from what I've learnt from Daniel's comments.
OTOH, I've been trading on eBay for several years now and they have...
I will find an excuse, in the meantime could you give me a shipping cost to New Zealand please ?
Thanks,
Very tempted by the 75mm, wasn't planning on buying one so now I'm looking for excuses. Rare to find a fast AND super sharp lens.
Cheers,
New topic.
Focal Reducers have been around for many years for telescopes, but now I see they're becoming extremely popular for adapting full frame, even medium format lenses to e.g. M4/3 cameras....
Current forecast here is 5 days of rain, but I'm sure the moon is up there.
Looks like Hi Res is no match for stacking, and that's effectively 800mm f/11.
The detail in your pic is something to aim...
I have communicated with Olympus (Japan) in the past and found them infuriatingly polite and negative in the same sentence. Reminds me of our politicians.
I found a firm in the US that seems very...
And I've just realised the AA filter is not the same as the IR filter, two separate pieces of glass. And it's the IR filter I want to remove for astro pics. So I'm back to square one. Interesting...
Imaging-resource have a series of comparison reviews of the E-M1 and E-M5, Mark I and Mark II. They state a few times that the Mark II variants of both models do not have the AA filter, whereas the...
I don't know anything about the T50, but yesterday I fired up my Epson R800 which I have had since the days of film cameras. I had to run the head cleaning routine several times to get the ink to...
Dan, That's a seriously impressive shot of Polaris and Polaris ab. And the detail on the moon is "out of this world" (pun intended). Was the moon shot with the 600mm scope too ?
I wonder if a High...
I'm using RAW. I had been using 1600 ISO but just my impression it was still noisy, even after stacking a dozen or so (untracked) images. I'm stacking in DeepSkyStacker.
Cheers,
Dan,
I've been reading a few reviews on the Tokina 300/2.8, and while they all say wonderful sharpness, some of them admit to purple fringing of highlights, and that's on the later autofocus lenses...
The Tokina AT-X 300 was originally only a manual lens, available in a variety of mounts, including Olympus OM. Later models included auto focus, but only in Canon, Nikon, and Minolta. (check this)....
Thanks Dan. That's a really comprehensive reply.
I try to get a f/2.8 lens so that the stars are a bit easier to focus on. For shooting I'm quite happy to stop down to f/4. even f/5.6 to minimise...
Thanks Daniel, that's given me something to think about. BTW, are those Polystrehl numbers you are quoting ?
I already have a Vixen VC200L 'scope, but even with a focal reducer the focal length is...
I'm looking for a 300mm f/2.8 manual lens to use on m4/3 for astrophotography. Auto focus has no use on stars. Oly has a ZD 300mm but the price is still prohibitive. There are other reasonably priced...
Thanks, that looks a superb lens. And it's also very good to see other manufacturers producing top-class lenses for the m4/3 system. There's a good review here, with pics, including astro. ...
Sounds like a second Xmas to me !!
I think the work involved in stitching in a foreground would be worth not ever having to worry over elongated stars. There's a tutorial somewhere on this website, http://www.lonelyspeck.com/ .
Those...
Thank you "Ed", I agree, getting a decent exposure at 2.8 is very difficult without star movement. I have resorted to stacking to try and improve the S/N ratio, but the potential for star movement...
Hi Rich,
It would be a shame not to take advantage of a dark sky and no moon. The sky should be dark enough by about 9pm (?). Even if you just use the fisheye lens that could give you some dramatic...
Thanks Bob, you have just introduced the next problem.
I have just realised the zoom control ring only rotates about a quarter turn (90 degrees) from one end of the zoom range to the other. On the...
