Re: Preliminary Features of the New E-pro (E-P1)

That's what my guess was too, but then I read that long piece of Olympus propaganda where they wrote about the new pro camera like this...

The front view evokes the tensed musculature of an...

Imagine the destructive power of Sigma Hyper Sonic Motor! Oly is behind the technology curve again!

Re: I'm on the horns of an enema....

The choice seems obvious if you're really buying the lens for group shots indoors; only the 11-22 is suitable for that. But for small party weddings, the 14-54 you already have should be fine. I...

    Re: Everyone hates Microsoft...

Yes, they are worse. The point of setting up a trust is to make sure that customers who need a product or service cannot avoid doing business with the trust. They either have a monopoly or have...

    Re: Everyone hates Microsoft...

Ray, since you're in Australia I'll forgive you for not following the years long antitrust case the U.S. government waged against Microsoft. If you'd followed this case, reading accounts of...

    Re: Pre order leopard?

Going 10.3.9 -> 10.4.0 caused me to have to restore 500GB of data from backups before I pulled the plug. Multi-CPU operation corrupted filesystems unrecoverably. It's someone else turn to suffer...

Re: Tweaking the E-1 for action shots, Ray?

My E-1's are already set up this way. I think Basic Wedge's success is more attributable to shooting at f/5.6, which gives the camera some slop to work with. And shooting with the slow reacting...

Re: E-510 and magenta cast over highlights

The clipping problem might not be fixable without a hardware change. If so, it might not be practical to do for a consumer camera. Oly might quietly fix the problem on the next batch of cameras off...

    Re: Candid shots & privacy

I never ask for permission. Doing so would ruin the shot I was trying to take, so the permission obtained would be worthless. In many cases I'm shooting a public scene with multiple people in it...

    Re: Firmware upgrade, E-410, E-510

Someone should test whether Olympus has quietly fixed the green channel clipping in RAW files that has been reported elsewhere.

Re: My feminine side has been assuaged.

My wife holds graduate degrees in computer science so I've no doubt women can understand technical details and mathematics. Still, I agree with NrthrnHrse. Show me the women thronging the camera...

see how a Canon 500/4L is made

I encountered this link deep in a thread over on DPR and thought it might be interesting to some folks here even though it's ostensibly about a Canon process. I particularly enjoyed the lens...

Maybe the upcoming E-P1 is the missing E-XX camera.

Re: E-pro (E-P1) not enough resolution

Indeed. I'm wondering whether it might make sense to shoot the E-3 as if it were a "better E-1" and use Photoshop to mash its images down to a presumably cleaner 5 megapixels. Seems like a natural...
  16. Re: Using adaptors to mount CANON or NIKON Lens

I've had no CA problems using old lenses, and I think you'll do OK as well if you stick to high quality old glass. If something was a budget lens twenty or thirty years ago you can imagine how it...

    Re: Pro Photographer Redux

Hopefully they'd be more clever about it, as having a camera can get you shot at in some situations. The optics in a cellphone camera are already small enough that they could be hidden in a belt...
  18. Re: Help! E-1's not recognizing lenses

I've noticed that my 50mm is the tightest fitting lens I have so it might be telling that it's the only lens of yours that's recognized. It definitely sounds like a problem with the contacts on the...

Re: This makes me feel better...

I think this goes to show how long in the tooth Canon's 1Ds line is getting to be. The 1Ds2 is pushing three years old and the 1Ds is pushing five. Memory cards were much slower back then and there...
  20. Re: Using adaptors to mount CANON or NIKON Lens

There's no adapter for Canon EF lenses, so forget about that.

I've used Nikon, Tamron and Olympus manual focus 35mm format lenses. For long focal lengths, the cost savings of using old lenses vs....

Re: E-pro (E-P1) not enough resolution

10 MP will be fine for my street shooting at all the sizes I print to. If I keep playing with landscapes I'll probably weigh whatever Canon comes up with next in the 1Ds line against the Mamiya 645...

    Re: 4/3 short primes?

It's depressing that B&H isn't even taking orders. I don't know what to make of that. I've been tempted by the eBay offerings but going without a warranty on a lens that had early problems is too...
  23. Re: Comparison between Foveon and Bayer sensor (SD14 and 5D)

Indeed. But I am unconvinced that this matters at all in most photography or that it is a feature that anybody other than the author of the article cares about.
  24. Re: Comparison between Foveon and Bayer sensor (SD14 and 5D)

Interestingly, the Fuji S5 beat the Sigma SD14 in Pop Photo's color accuracy test. But Pop Photo only publishes average delta E scores, so you can't really tell how agreeable the camera tones will...

    Re: Must Resist...

(grumble) I have to say that you guys talking about the improved AF on the E-410/E-510 isn't making my wait for the E-3 any easier. :nailbiting:
