    Default E5 at Wrotniak.net

Wrotniak has 2 photos of what looks like a prototype for the new pro E body.
11 Mp and big as an E1+grip..

Ah, OK. Good fake, though. 11 MP sounds about right too.
I\'m happy enough with my E1, but surely an announcement is required soon. Like the lens roadmap it would give the faithful (and the wavering) an idea of what to save up for.

One thing I am pretty sure of is that the E5 is about to be released any day now because I just bought the E-300 as a backup camera. I have a couple of important shoots coming up and I could not wait for the E5.

My E-300 will go on sale the day the E5 is released.

I think it won\'t be till PMA.
I can\'t say why or how I know, but I had a second source confirm what I was told by someone.

Many are saying fall 2006, that there will be another consumer E for PMA.

Personally I don\'t believe in wasting time with these rumours!

I recall a post by gsciorio in these forums stating:

    \"Think D2X, now think better\"

I think that was quite intriguing.

There are many things I would love with the next E...
ISO 50 (We have F2 Lenses here)
    12-15mp
    In body IS
Usable ISO at least up to 800 if not higher (I think that is one area that the D2X is now lacking)
    ITTL for the flash system
However, we will see. I hope they have it out by Christmas.
    But we will see.

I\'m surprised that Wrotniak was taken in by these apparently fake photos. They\'re the same ones we saw here in an earlier thread a week or two ago. All you have to do is look at a Nikon pro body and you\'ll see where the back display was copied from and then modified with Olympus-style buttons.

I\'m not aware of Olympus ever copying a competitors camera like this before. Plus, Olympus uses a 2.5-inch LCD monitor on the E-500. I would expect nothing less on its next pro body.

2\" screen with small sub screen below for vitals would be ideal. If the Pro-body rplacement for the E1 is about the same size or slightly larger a 2.5\" screen would be a mistake as it would mean either more button clutter or more menu driven options.

2\" screen with perhaps a 8x magnification option would be good, although I don\'t spend much time magnifying photos on the field.

You can see some areas where it was fixed. But If it is real. I think it is very cool.
    But I doubt it.

it\'s a fake (10-pin connector is from D2x/h etc), but anyhow, it is time to have an announcement.
The Nikon D200 is right around the corner (Nov 1st), with \"leaked\" pictures and images all over the .net (and this time they\'re real, coming from nikon sites)..
I want the same to happen with the E-5 or whatever it\'s going to be called (well, the \"leak\" is not necessary, just announce the damn thing already!)

btw, don\'t you think these \"leaks\" are a new way of marketing? .. just tease the crowd with some images and have them go nuts over specs just before you announce the real (identical) product. If this is by accident, I eat my shoulder-strap..

    Hi MarkoF,

The computer software industry has done this sort of \"leaking\" and \"pre-announcement\" for a couple of decades at least. That\'s why we have terms like \"vaporware\" in our vocabulary.

Although, I too, am very eager for real details of Olympus\' next pro camera body, I can understand why they don\'t want to tip their hand too early and give their competitors more time to counter. Who knows? The perceived delay on their part may be due to their having to re-work the new camera to better counter their competitors. It\'s a \"hanged if you do\" and \"hanged if you don\'t\" situation. If Olympus told us what was coming long before it was available, we would complain about that. So we complain about the opposite.

That\'s curious. Olympus reps are hinting that a new pro body won\'t be out until late next year (possible Autumn) and that all they\'ll do at PMA is announce a bit about what is coming. Yet, if dealers are sending back their E-1 stock it would seem to indicate one of two things: (1) a new pro body is coming sooner, or (2) sales are so aweful that they just don\'t want to carry the E-1 any more. I sure hope its the former rather than the latter.

I have worked at a few smaller camera shops and I have never heard of being able to send back stuff that you don\'t want to sell or is about to be replaced. Maybe this is possible for the really big places but it sounds fishy to me. Usually if you bought it it is yours. Sometimes companies will price protect you if they drop the price of an item. I have seen them ship your cameras to other dealers when there is a shortage and you don\'t need them, but these don\'t go back to the camera company. Interesting.

I wonder how they\'ll increment processor resolution on its so small surface.
If they\'ll build a camera better than Canon 5D and if they will sell it for the same or lower price I\'ll buy it if not I prefer to buy Canon.

This fake first appeared at least half a year ago. It was thoroughly discussed at Dpreview back then.
