    Default FL-50 Tech Question

I'm going to do a bit of experimenting with external power for the FL-50, so does anyone know which terminals at the front are for power and which are + and -?

    Cheers

Nothing specifically in answer to your question, but you might be interested in this guy's experience with wiring a flash for the E-300.

Not quite the same, I just want to connect a 6V battery from the front. Probably after all the stuffing around, I'll end up getting the Olympus battery pack. It usually ends that way.

Looking at the flash from the front.

You will see left to right. 2 large pins and 2 small pins.
The large pin on the left is + and the other large pin is -.

I just did a voltage check on the grip.

    Ray,

What you really want is a Digital Camera Battery - www.digitalcamerabattery.com

I had to call and request special cables to be made for the FL-50 but they arrived in no time.

The battery lasts all day, upwards of 2,000 exposures for me and it can power two devices at the same time. I have the 40W and 80W models for my work and they do everything from power the FL50 to on location strobe work.

Also you can buy extra cables to power your camera, laptop etc.

    Awesome product - highly recommended.

Thanks, that's what I was after.

That's another option, but as I don't need quite that capacity, I was thinking of fooling around with some lighter options.

    OzRay,

I use the Underdog battery with the Quantum connector on the FL-50. I shoot weddings, 400+ shots. So far, no problems and a quick recycle time. The FL-50 is a very expensive piece of equipment to fool around with; voiding the warranty and all that. "Don't invent something you can buy down the street." (Heinlein)

That's the obvious solution, but it potentially introduces more clutter. I haven't dismissed it outright, but I'm still pondering alternatives.
