    Default Photoshop help

Photoshop dummie here. I want to figure out how to put a different background on a picture. Basicly take the picture out of the background and change the background. I will attach a picture, maybe that will make more sense. I want to put a artistic background behind this horse. Anything will help. I am a handsone person, but if explained to well enough I might figure it out. Thanks

What you want to do is "select" or "mask" the part(s) you either want, or don't want. Lots of ways to do this in PS, and that can be the hard part.

The different ways to "mask" involve different tools, and some are a lot more precise than others. But they take longer to use and learn. Catch-22.

This is a quick PDF worth reading to familiarize yourself with the basic process:

This one will get into more "precise" selection processes:

Really want to know more, get Katrin Eisemann's book on Masking and Compositing, available at the big booksellers.

    Default Look here

Take a look at the video tutorial "Photoshop reference: smart objects" on this page, it walks you through it step by step. BTW all the photoshop tutorials on the radiantvista site are first-rate, well worth a look.

Akso check out the Radiant Vista PDF tutorials, there is one on "Sophisticated Selections" (as I remember, as many as 23 steps are involved, so pour a stiff scotch). This technique is better for fine details like hair, and maybe that is what you will need for horses manes.

    Cheers
