All Stolen

Went out for 3 Hr today, came home and found house broken into and all my camera gear gone....@#$%^& it
Nice simple package in Pelican 1525 case to pick up. Been home 2hr from a few days holiday and had to go over to my dads place.
My question is for insurance is, what would be the equivalent camera body to the E1 going around today, my guess is the Nikon D200. Mainly talking specs here, weatherproof, robust body etc.
Kind of glad I did order the 50-200 on Monday like I almost did.

Sorry to hear about the loss Shane. Check out local pawn shops including the well known chain converter shops in your area. Hope your insurance company will come to the party. Real bummer.

Biggest problem is Ive just taken 2mths off on long service hoping to get a lot of photography in and this happens.....

The body only was $1199. You might want to provide this and similar quotes to the insurance company. I don't know who you have but my insurance basically has up to 1.5K with no real questions ask in the case of theft with a police report. If you get similar "quotes" for new equipment you might get a better return from the Insurance folks. Make sure that everything you submit to insurance is also listed on the police report.

Just a note I carry full replacement value on my insurance and I don't know what level you might carry.

I don't know about the comparison since there is a big diff in some areas with the D200.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. This is something I always worry about. I have my equipment insured for $5000, but there is a $1000 deductible. So if anyone steals my equipment I am immediately out at least $1000.

With my policy the equipment is insured at original cost, so you may get what you paid for it.
My photo equipment is listed under a special policy instead of a general household policy.

Sad story. I hope you will get your equipment replaced.
The house next to ours was broken into this very week. They only took the cash they found but went through all the drawers etc.
I tried to get separate insurance for my gear but my insurance broker told me that it is insured for theft through my usual insurance and that there are not many companies left that will ensure damage or loss because of to much abuse in the past.

I'm very sorry to hear about your robbery, Shane. I can't offer any knowledgeable advice, but if I were starting all over again with a non-Oly system, the D-200 would probably be my choice, as fast AF is a concern with me. D-200s are relatively cheap right now. If you are in a hurry, maybe you can get a Nikon system to tide you over, then sell it (if you want) when the new E-pro and SWD lenses come out.

All depends on your Insurance Policy... (i hope you didnt do Commerical Work on your Gear when it's on a Domestic Ins.Policy!!)

If you have not got the items LISTED in the Policy, then you might have a CAPPED VAULE that They may pay up to...

For when i had my stuff stolen, the Olympus E1 +40~150 +BLM1s +Remote +Memory Cards, were all group'd together as a KIT and fortuntly came in under the $2000 (AUD) CAP. My Metz 45CT4 was also in the Bag, but was counted/vauled sepratly as it was cross-compatiable with other Camera Systems.

Likewise with my Tamron (adaptal2) 70-150mm f3.5 "constant aperture" lens... it was on a Canon T70 when stolen with the above, and was also about to be KITTED, when i pointed out that that lens could be also fitted to my Olympus OM2sp (that was not taken!) so was given an indivdual Vaulation... which i convinced the Company that it's nearest Spec'd Lens was a Canon L 70-210 f4 "constant aperture" lens. NO 70-210 f4~5.6 for me Thank You very much!!

Also, time is against you... the Insurance Company will want to settle your claim in a timely fashion & Once they gave me a Camera Shop Voucher for $7000 (AUD) i had 30 days in which to use it, the same may apply to you.

If you have a Full Replacement Policy & can show that you really like to photography the Great OutDoors, and push the point of WeatherSealing Body & Lens (and that Pelican Case!) They may consider offering a Combo with that option... D2Hs, EOS1D, K10D, etc... (D200 not WeatherSealed)

Then they will be ringing all around AUS looking for a NEW Olympus E1 to give you...

Properly will look at the D200 and S5 and K10D. Leaning towards the S5. Problem being in Australia none of the Oly gear is on our shores.
All the gear is valved separately, except the kit len and body as one, but its the 14-45 kit so not a problem. Will be interesting how they try to handle the OM300 F4.5 i had. Technical the only Oly replacement is the 300f2.8 but cannot see that happening. Properly $ value of nikon 300mmf4.5. but still good
