I like the overall composition, but I find myself wishing that the top half were not there. The gnarly tree trunk and the sailboat complement each other, but the overhead branches distract me, but that's JMO. Thanks for sharing!

Nice balance for me. Hard to believe you used such a long lens!

Your focal point was the tree and therefore the boat is a little soft. It has been a long time since I have seen f22. I would guess your lens probably tops out at somewhere around f8 and beyond that you start loosing to diffraction. If you had open up a little the boat would look like it was intended to be soft but a little gausian blur can achieve the same result.

I wouldn't change the composition, which looks right to me. I do wonder if there is something that PP could do to clean up the smog. The lower branches on the right side look a little pale, probably a touch of lens flare caused by the hard light coming off the water.

    A nice tree.

    Thanks for your comments.
I used F22 to get the maximum DOF, the tree being quite close, and the boat a long distance away. I don't mind the bleached effect of the boat (which is actually sharp), because the main interest is the tree in my view, with the boat being something to emphasise the trees swirling shape.
    Cheers,
    Don

I really like the composition of that photo. I wish it would have been taken either earlier or later as the sky would have had some nice color. You definately had creativity when you took this photo. Nice job!

I like the composition and the way you used the tree. This is a place to go back for some more. Hopefully there will often pass boats at that point too.

Exactly what I was thinking, a square crop would be perfect IMHO Don. I love the light on the tree and I think the atmosphere will be totally different when you go back at a different hour. Thanks for sharing.
