    Sorry, nope.

You could always improvise with the RM-1 remote...

    Default As Mike suggested......

You could adapt the RM-1 to do what you want. Read from this post down.

yeah, i was thinking about getting a dental mirror, with some sort of clamp off the tripod so I can reflect the remote into the sensor from behind the camera.

    think that would work?

    Hi Steve,

I read somewhere about someone who added a remote switch to their infrared remote control.
They soldered 2 wires onto the keyboard connections of the remote and brought them out to a simple push button switch. (momentary on switch)
It could probably be done with a socket and separate cable so the IR remote was still usable as a normal IR remote, but the cheapies are under $10 so does it matter if you waste one !

They affixed the IR remote to the front of the camera with tape or a rubber band.

    Cheers

Not certain why my post didn't show, so... will try again. You can use Fiberoptic cable with the RM-1. From this post down.

Hope it works this time. If not, I surrender and will go sit in the corner.

Here are some photos of my moded remote. I found it much easier to extend the LED than adding another switch. It works quite well but still not perfect, see here for a wired solution, but only if you are brave http://fourthirdsphoto.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=5275

    Hi,

I recently bought the E-510 and there was a flyer in the box that listed the accessories available for the E-510. This flyer refers to an RM-UC1 which is a remote cable release. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to support the E-500. Listed cameras are E-400, E-410 and E-510.

I'll probably order one of these for my 510.

While the E-500 and E-330 use the same cable as the E-400/E-500/E-510, they evidently don't have the contacts for the wired shutter release.

There are Chinese clones of the RM-UC1 on ebay. I bought one (JJC MR-J) and it works well. This model is well made, and rivals my RM-CB1 for the E-1.

I wanted to try an experiment make a longer extension for the shutter release (there is a cable section on the side), so I bought the JJC RM-CB1 clone, and was disappointed in the build quality.

I am confused. Are you saying the JJC MR-J works as a remote shutter for the E-500 or did I read this wrong?

You read it wrong. The RM-UC1 and JJC MR-J will phisically fit in the socket of a E500 but it will not trigger the shutter on an E500. There are no wires going from the socket on the E500 to the shutter so there is no way this or any other remote can be used to trigger an E500.
    Well there are two exceptions.
    1. Create a USB Host device to trigger the camera. This device would use the same method a computer running Studio would use to trigger the camera, not cheap or easy.
    2. Pull the camera apart and connect your own wires to the shutter button. See my link above.

I don't have an E-500, only an E-1 and an E-510. As I said in an earlier post, even though the cable will fit in the socket, neither the E-500 nor the E-330 will use the remote shutter.

By works well, I meant in terms of the E-510.

By the extension, there is a small opening on the side of the JJC clone that is mean to allow two cameras to be fired at the same time (but I haven't really found the details yet). I thought it was a standard RCA mini-plug but it is smaller than that. What I was trying to do is set up the camera pointing at a bird feeder, and I wanted a much longer cable to fire off the shutter so I don't spook the birds. I figured a male to male cable would connect the two shutter releases, and I could use one shutter release in the house to fire the camera, and have the other shutter release attached to the camera with the connecting cord.
