This talk will present Open Source tools that can be used to post-process High Dynamic Range (HDR) photographs and panoroamas. This may include (depending on what works best at the time of the talk):

• Hugin (panorama photo stitcher),
• PFSTools (read, write, manipulate and view HDR images),
• PFScalibration (photometric calibration of HDR and LDR cameras),
• PFSTmo (tone mapping operators), and
• dcraw (decodes Raw, unprocessed CCD data files).

Hi Clark,

I just downloaded and tried out Hugin for Windows and I must say that I am very impressed by the automated outcome.

I knew that PanoTools, the panorama creation toolbox for which Hugin is a GUI, always has been capable of top notch results, but I never bothered to do all the manual corrections needed. With the GUI Hugin, it is easier than ever to create seamless and fault free panoramas even when the program is left to decide most of the parameters for you.

I have previously used the excellent Panorama Factory for high quality panoramas (and PS CS for quick and dirty preview panoramas) but Hugin/Panotools seems to be even better.

I haven't used it for HDR but if that is possible, I wouldn't mind giving it a try.

The author of the article I posted is going to present this stuff at a meeting on Monday, July 16. I plan to attend. Is there anything I should look for that you can't learn by contacting the author by email?

I attended the LUGOD (Linux Users Group of Davis, Ca) meeting. Unfortunately, the other members were much better programers than I am and I didn't understand everything presented.
