Question What is your Personality Type?

    Greetings,

Many years ago I participated in a research program where my personality was "typed". The Jung / Myers-Briggs test was used. I recently ran across that information and thought it would be interesting to know what kind of personalities are represented here at 4/3photo.

You can take the test for free at the HumanMetrics website. Click on the "Take test" link in the "Jung Typology Test" section. The test is a series of short yes/no questions on just one webpage. Be sure and click on the "Marina Margaret Heiss" link afterward for a description of your type and a list of famous people who have/had the same type.

This test is probably the "granddaddy" of personality tests and in my experience (I've taken quite a few) it is still one of the best. There have been many books written about it (such as "Please Understand Me" by David Keirsey and Marilyn Bates). I've taken the Jung / Myers-Briggs several times over more than two decades and I aways come up the same as an...

    I N T J

It classifies a person's personalilty four ways as follows:
    1. Extrovert (E) or Introvert (I)
    2. Sensing (S) or Intuitive (N)
    3. Feeling (F) or Thinking (T)
    4. Perceiving (P) or Judging (J)
So I'm an introverted, intuitive, thinking, judging type. My type is tied with the INTP for being the most rare (unusual?) type. No more than 1% of the population is cursed with an INTJ personality. Whew! Aren't you all lucky!!!

There's nothing inherently good or bad about these types---they do not assess a person's character. But they do give a decent idea of one's tendencies with regard to how they view and interact with life.

What makes these kinds of assessments helpful (at least to people like me) is that I'm often clueless at "reading" other people. It's difficult to know where they're coming from. Are they being "matter of fact", joking, angry, what? People say they have the same trouble with me because I'm "Spockian". This is doubly difficult in a forum where we can't hear each other's voice or see each other's face. Understanding someone's personality type may help us better understand the nature of our posts. Besides, it would simply be interesting to see if we follow the usual distribution.

My wife is an ENFP so we are very different. The only trait we share is "intuition". She is a "people person" and I'm a "loner" which makes for interesting times. Believe it or not, we've been happily married for 29 years so something must be working.

Now it's your turn: What is your personality type?
    Best regards, FL

I've done that test several times and the last one had me as an ENTP, but I have a vague recollection that a very much earlier one had me pegged as an INTJ. Maybe things change with age and experience. Interestingly, the NT has remained the same.

    FL,

    Interesting topic.

    ENTJ

Although I note the percentage for E was just 1 - whatever that means.
But I'll try not to let that worry me !

    Wow, another INTJ has surfaced!

If you would like to read about the other personality types so you can better understand someone else then go to the Type Logic home page and click on one of the links at the top of the page. There are a total of 16 possible types. Here's how they are usually distributed in a large population:
    • ENFJ - 5%
    • INFJ - 1%
    • ENFP - 5%
    • INFP - 1%
    • ENTJ - 5%
    • INTJ - 1% or less
    • ENTP - 5%
    • INTP - 1% or less
    • ESTJ - 13%
    • ISTJ - 6%
    • ESFJ - 13%
    • ISFJ - 6%
    • ESTP - 13-15%
    • ESFP - 13-15%
    • ISTP - 3-5%
    • ISFP - 5%
There are many websites which attempt to characterize the different personality types. Just do a Google search for your or someone else's type and you'll turn up lots of information. For example, a search of "INTJ personality" without the quotes (my type) turned up 266,000 links!

Yes another INTJ (science) person here. Yes, as we mature our 'types' tend to drift towards the centre.

I'm not sure how it derives the "sensing" and "Judging" part, with a 1% value assigned to each, but it nailed the other two (100 and 88%).

    Another I N T J here - must be 1% of the population here!

It was interesting when I clicked on the career choices link at the end - 2/4 actually align very closely with what I currently do.
