I just upgraded my E-410 to firmware 1.2, at liveview mode, th screen color looks much better according to the WB setting, I did tried 12,000K, and it shows 12,000K colors, its a great upgrade !!! Can use it as a white balance meter :-)

Now if only they'd update the E-330 firmware...I'd really like a LIVE histogram! Worst is the camera is perfectly capable of doing it, since the L1 and the Leica share most of the hardware with the 330.

Agreed. Especially since Olympus charged an initial premium for that camera surely it deserves a mid life update! I want the exposure compensation preview, to give control of the live view's gain settings.

Perhaps the troubles I have had with a new Transend 8gb 266x card are the camera, not the card's fault. I'll update tonight and see. I ahve not sent the cards back to Transend yet.

Someone should test whether Olympus has quietly fixed the green channel clipping in RAW files that has been reported elsewhere.

Unfortunately not... still clipping prematurely with the 510.

I won't call it fixed just yet, but I've managed 80 error free RAW+SHQ shots so far on my Transcend 266x 4GB. Before I rarely got past 30 before it errored.

I was actually going to send the card back for refund today, but I read about the update right before I left for the post office!

Could be due to a constrain between Truepic turbo and Truepic III image processor...? We have no other choice at the moment but wait with patience ... wish Olympus technical people read our concern.

Please share more about the card when you get a replacement. I almost bought one yesterday at the mall.

Is there any other improvements to the 510?

Cool E-510 at least loses custom settings

I just upgraded my E-510, and it looks like it loses the custom settings. Not a big deal (the reduced info screen and going back to HQ was a clue), but I don't recall my E-1 losing the settings. Of course, it has been a long time since there was an E-1 update.

Made several shots yesterday under good sunshine with my E-410 (firmware 1.2), seems a bit improvement on the highlights, blown out much less, will keep you informed if found that really improved.

Thanks for alerting us on these. Olympus certainly makes updating easy--did it in about ten minutes to my 510. As noted above, the process resets pretty much every setting but the time and date.

Actually I would dispute the 'easy' part. I wish Olympus would go back to the method of putting the firmware in a file that you put in the card. It is annoying to have to find the cable and move to a Windows computer that is connected to the internet all to do an update.

I agree with Michael - I really wish it was off the card, like the L1 is. Its a bit of a pain to do the whole thing on the computer. I am off now to find the correct USB cable.

I would say that this upgrade is not worth the risks. At least one dpreview poster has had his 510 completely fail after the update. And I have lost my ability to have PC control(I am still trying to solve that one). given the modest Oly claimed benefit:
    -
Improved reliability of writing to high-speed Compact Flash cards..

I wish I had waited until much later for the upgrade attempt. The combination of a buggy new OS(Vista U) and a buggy new camera control software(Studio 2) is too risky.

I wonder if using Vista to upgrade your camera caused the problems. I won't go to Vista. I use XP x64. I would use a XP Pro box to upgrade my camera's firmware.

Vista does too many stupid security tricks that only cause issues with apps. I know many on other forums that reverted back to XP Pro. They all had to completely blank their hard drives to reinstall XP Pro because of GPT formatting used by Vista. Many have reported USB2 and Firewire 800 issues with Vista.

I upgraded my E-510 using a Vista laptop and Olympus Master - no problems at all.

Yes, I am thinking the same thing. I should have used my XP2 based laptop for the upgrade attempt. At least then, I wou ld have had only one variable changing

Do you really want to re-download or re-copy this onto the card every time you format it? (which I'm sure you do every time instead of deleting all, because that's just a silly way to loose card space) What if you switch cards?
Not to mention the inevitable loss of photo space to make room for an off board source and the probable loss in speed from constantly rebooting at start-up or from reading slower cards (such as the XD's).
The last thing we need is a Commodore 64 style operating system in our cameras slugging it up.

You only do firmware once. You can get a 32MB card and save the firmware to it and update just this card.
