Default Went to Duxford Yesterday - some big birds

As the title says - I went to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford yesterday. Took a few pictures of the "birds in flight". All taken with an E500 and ZD 50-200, shot in RAW (if you look at the sky - you'll know why!), just straight conversions using Capture One apart from a WB adjustment on one or two.

It was American Air Day - celebrating 10 years of the American Air Museum at Duxford. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of the inside of that - that's where you really need the 7-14 or 11-22, neither of which I currently have .

Now I'm looking forward to the September Airshow - the Red Arrows will be there. Always good to watch and snap - especially if there isn't any cloud about!

Quite a show, thanks for sharing. I like #23 best (a landing Lancaster?).

    Thanks Henk.

Sorry for the tardy reply but work has been bad for the past week or so and I haven't been keeping up with things! Thanks for the interest, #23 is actually a B17 Flying Fortress on takeoff. That particular plane starred in the most recent Memphis Belle movie, in fact on one side it's name "Sally B" and the other "Memphis Belle". It is a very nice plane but just doesn't have the sound of the Lancaster's four Merlin engines.

Had a quick look at your galleries - hmmm - seems I have a lot of practicing to do! Some very nice photos.

Hmm... an F-86, P-51, and a B-17! What a great day you had... it only would have been better if you were inside one or more of those old birds!

I've been wanting to go down to Duxford for a while as I'd love to see an SR-71 in the flesh however I did wonder if it was worth waiting until I picked up the 7-14mm - interesting to see you think this is needed as it confirms my original thoughts.

    Hi John

the problem is that the American Air Museum is pretty packed. A lot of the exhibits are effectively underneath a B52 or squashed up by the side of it. If I get over there in the next couple of weeks I'll take a few shots to show how it is.

If you do decide top come down (and obviously it's a long trip for you) I'd recommend any of the big air show days, they get a lot of these old birds flying and it is a treat to see.
