    Default Camouflage on paint

I was photographing some artwork for a friend of mine yesterday, when this guy landed on one of the subjects. I guess he thought he could blend in. Anyone know the exact name of this creature?

Taken with the ZD 50-200mm on E-330.

I have no idea what his name might be, but he sure does have good camoflague.

Looks like a green stealth bomber.

That's a neat capture and a fascinating creature. I've never seen a bug quite like that one. As I was scrolling down, I was sure the wing was a leaf that it was carrying.

It's a katydid of some sort. Your location would help to get closer, but bugguide should get you started.

Ah, thank you. And so tagged. My location is central Illinois, by the way.

Per bugguide, we can tell this is a female, as it lacks a stridulatory area (for singing) on its back.

On the odds it's either a greater or lesser angle-wing, though there is an outside chance it could be any of hundreds of other potentials.

If there's a lip/tooth where the head meets the back then it's likely a greater, and if the margin is square then it's likely a lesser. Unfortunately if it's hard to know in advance just which bits of a bug to photograph for later identification!

Thanks for the info. Honestly, I was just glad to get the capture, she didn't stick around for long, especially after the artwork was moved around to facilitate photographing her.

From the looks of the photo, I'd say she was a lesser angle-wing. It's a little hard to tell, though.

What an interesting shot! I like the contrast between the natural and the artwork.
