    Default E-500 Repair Parts

My bro just managed to bend some pins in his E-500 and Olympus just told him that the repair would cost over a $100. So I told him I'd do the repair if I can find where to purchase the parts. Other than Olympus, do any of you know where I can purchase the male CF pins assy for the slot? Thanks.

Unless you can find a damaged E-500 on eBay, pay the $100 for them to do it. I doubt they sell repair parts from Olympus.

Even if you had the connector you would need to be prepared to remove the existing surface mount (almost certainly the technology used, although I haven't seen the inside of an E-500) connector and replace it with the new part. Really tough (read: Impossible) if you don't have the proper equipment. Unless you have access to a surface mount rework station, to a near certainty any attempted repair would destroy the camera's printed circuit board. I wouldn't try this and I have an SMD rework station. $100 for the repair is a good deal. Sorry.

If it is just bent pins, it appears from the photo that if you pull off the back, you may be able to remove the shield and gain access to straighten the pins.

Thanks for the response. I think I'll reconsider and have my bro send it to Olympus.

$100!!. I bent some pins on CF card reader (flattened right down) and my buddy who is an Electrical engineer fixed it in like 2 seconds. I'll send him an e-mail ask what he used

All you need apparently is some needle nose pliers and tweezers (the good electronics kind not the HArdware store version) and little care.
