Default DynaTran tripod arrived today from Amvona

About a week ago I won a DynaTran tripod from Amvona for just under $50 with the shipping. I was unfamiliar with Amvona and their tripods, but somewhere or another was reading a thread where someone was looking for a decent tripod but was on a budget. You can buy the tripods directly from Amvona.com, and they are relatively reasonable there compared with, say, Bogen/Manfrotto setups. If you watch a bunch of them on ebay, though, eventually you can get one for pretty cheap. This one is the AT-818. It has a 3-way panhead. Many of the models they were listing when I was bidding were ballheads. Those seemed to be going for more.

When mine arrived today, I was pretty impressed by the quality of it. I looked at the expensive ones the other day at my local camera dealer just so I would have something to compare mine to when it arrived. I was surprised at how good it looks. It is heavy and solid. I recommend that anyone looking for a tripod who doesn't want to plunk down $300 should look at Amvona.

Looks like you did well on the price. I've never heard of the brand before, but if I had, I might have gotten one of their tripods instead of the one I bought. Hasn't arrived from Amazon yet, but it's the Velbon El Carmagne 530. I paid a bit less than the advertised price on Amazon. But the Amvona tripods look really nice.

Yours looks like it will be really nice. Carbon fiber, eh? I don't think mine is made of anything that exotic.

Probably not at that price point, but Amvona has some carbon fiber tripods that look like comparable, or even better deals than my deal on the Velbon.

I purchase from Amvona all the time. They are fast to ship but if there is a problem it takes forever for things to get fixed!

I have picked up things like back drop stands, tripods and backdrops.

Really they are just making knockoffs at decent quality. Their ebay site is a great way to save some cash! I am not sure how their shipping is in the USA but they sure make up for selling things cheap with their shipping.

I received a backdrop from them just this morning that I won on Ebay for $14 but with shipping I paid $50. Still better than paying $100-$300!

Oh the ball head that came with my tripod was total crap! IT was one of those grip heads, squeeze the handel and that releases it. Total garbage!

    Just letting you know.

Maybe you should post a review in the reviews section. That way more people can benefit from your experience.

I didn't think those would be any good. Mine doesn't have that. The three handles on it work fine. It was much cheaper than the ones with the ballheads, too.

    Default Quick Release mounting plates

My new tripod's head has a quick release plate. It seems to work well but my immediate thought was that if I am going to use the thing I need more quick release plate so as to be able to have them on more than one camera. Are these things at all standard, or are there all different shapes an sizes that I need to be worried about? Where is the best place to get more of them?

Isn't that funny, my Velbon came the other day, and it does NOT have a quick release plate, and I'm thinking to add a universal-type QR adapter.

Plate dimensions vary quite a lot, I think you should contact Amvona about purchasing extra plates.

The resemblance between the Amvona material and the HQ tripod I bought last week is remarkable. I would say they have their tripods made at the same factory with different brand names.
Just take a look at this 3-way pan head.

I bought a sturdy (and rather heavy) HQ Tripod75 without head as I already had a decent manfrotto ball-head. I only paid 69 euro's for it.
