    Default August 07 - Water

Well for us in the Northern Hemisphere are drawing close to the end of summer. But I think that this theme should be do able for everyone. Water - You know that wet stuff which covers 70% of the earth. So be creative!

You can place the photos in this thread and I will put them all together at the end of the contest.

Or You can upload them to this gallery. username: tony@fourthirdsphoto.com password: wetworld please link them back here, and make sure that you include in the comments your username and title.

4- a title is nice to include with your photo.

The top 4 contributers will be entered into the 43photo photographer of the year contest.

My photo is not what I remembered?
Many times you see a beautiful scene and of course you take a picture! The result is often far from being the magical scene you remember.
Our eyes are very adaptive and they are also more sensitive to intensity than color. It is estimated that our eye can see over a dynamic range of nearly 24 f-stops while a digital camera can capture a dynamic range around 6 to 9 f-stops. See this gallery for examples!

    DCE AutoEnhance:
DCE AutoEnhance is an automatic photo enhancer and batch processor. This application will help you with the time consumingjob of adjusting and enhancing your daily digital images in a whole new and smart way. Primarily targeted to JPEG files with EXIF but accept also RAW files!

    PureImage:
PureImage is our newest addition to the digital camera tools. Wavelet based Noise Reduction and Color Matching application that uses the latest research in image processing. Also this application supports usual range of image formats and RAW files!

    Multimedia Builder:
Windows-based multimedia authoring system allows you to create autorun CD menus, Multimedia Applications on CD-ROM, Demos, Presentations, MP3 players and much, much more.

I tried to tie the exif info to the file but I haven't ever done that. Here's what I know. 100ISO, 33mm, f/4.5 1/320, IS on. Processed with Adobe Lightroom. I hope that meets the guidelines?

    Title = Water sport.

Was out and about at a local river race. Here's one of the best I managed (there weren't too many). This shot was at one of the rapids and the large amount foam in the water makes it look almost like snow boat racing.

There's an error on my camera, I have the month set wrong which means the EXIF shows as September rather than August. It was taken at the start of August as the weather conditions should indicate.

There's an error in your horizon level as well John but otherwise a very suitable shot.

I've been a local weir a good few times now, it's good for getting in close without getting TOO wet.

    Default Solution!

    Here's the EXIF data...
    "Make","OLYMPUS IMAGING CORP.",
    "Model","E-400",
    "Exposure time [s]","1/125",
    "Exposure mode","Manual",
    "F-Number","F18.0"
    "Focal length [mm]","48"
    "ISO value","800",
    Date: today, 18-8-07

Method: Backlight the glass and water with Nikon SB28 and SC17 extender cable. Flash was set on manual at 1/32nd power using Sto-Fen plus 2 sheets 50 micron polyester matt drafting film as diffuser. Tripod, water, ink and pen. Black out the room to kill the reflections and adjust aperture for best effect.

Trial and error (mostly the latter) Loads of fun

    Enjoy..
