    Default Backlit Butterflies

    This morning was a lovely one - not a cloud as far as an eye could see!

    I sat down at our deck for half an hour with our patch of florishing spices right into the sun - nice and warm ...

    I'd like to show a little photographic sequence of a couple of Silver-washed Fritillaries (Argynnis paphia) which were searching for nectar just in front of me.

    Enjoy these little Wonders of Nature:

    "Feeding from Beneath":

    "Feeding Side View":

    "Feeding, Front View":

    "Close-up":

    "Resting":

    Comments, questions, and suggestions are welcome as always!

    Cheers, Jens.

    Hardware:
    All except "Close-up" were taken with:
    E-1 + EC-14 + ZD 50-200 + Canon 500D (achromatic close-up lens), S-AF monopod.
    For "Close-up" I used: E-1 + cleaved EX-25 with electrical bypass + Vivitar 2x Macro Teleconverter + ZD 50/2.0 Macro, M-AF, monopod

    Manual Exposure:
    For all except "Resting" I used: f/16 & 1/100 sec., ISO 200
    For "Resting" I used: f/8 & 1/320, ISO 200

    Processing:
    All shot SHQ with contrast = -2, Sharpness =-3, then Neat Image, Clarify & Automatic Saturation (in PSP), finally Sharpened in Focus Magic. A few disturbing elements were either darkened or cloned out from the BG. "Close-up" is a composite of two images with slightly different position of focus.

    An extremely nice collection of butterfly images. You were very lucky to have such cooperative subjects.

    They are all good, but the third is excellent. Nice job.

    A beautiful present of mother nature, well captured Jens. Due to the extreme wet weather we have had very few butterflies so far. Thanks for sharing.
