Default The elusive Panica 25mm and 14-150mm lenses

    (The Lumix 25mm)

I have been trying to find places to buy the 25mm and the 14-150mm Panasonic / leica lenses. Well to this point I haven't found either in stock. So I contacted the PR firm for Panasonic, and was told - "Both lenses are available. But we can't speak to inventory at specific retailers."

I did see that they were listed at B&H we will see for how long...
I checked this morning and they were instock, now this afternoon they appear to be out of stock again.

I also saw the elusive Panasonic 25mm magically appear as in stock at B&H
but I'm still suffering from being jilted last week so I was a bit apprehensive
    about committing again.

If I don't succeed in acquiring one before my China trip I'll settle for a Sigma @24mm f1.8
and upon my return begin my quest of the even more elusive panasonic 14-150mm

The 25mm can be ordered in the Netherlands at Cameraland. I bought mine there, it was out of stock for a week, reappeared as in stock, and now is out of stock again. Perhaps the site is worth checking for Dutch readers.

and I managed to snag one, but I've never seen (or heard of) the 14-150 available anywhere in the world much less the U.S. where we seem to get them last. A lot folks waiting for that 14-150!

Both have been on hold at Yodobashi and Biccamera since just after they came out, and without any clue as to when they'll be available again. Somehow not confidence-inspiring.

One wonders how seriously Leica and Panasonic are taking their entry into 4/3-land?

I will try and relay my buying experience of the much sought after Panica 25mm f1.4 lens. I initially put my name on the B&H email list about 2 weeks ago and never received a notice of any kind. When I decided to purchase the lens from B&H I put in an order using the "Bill Me Later" feature that basically gives you no payments for 6 months on an item of this cost. ( anything over 750 usd ). While placing the order with the salesmen at B&H he told me it was one of their hottest sellers and they only receive a few pieces each month which sell out immediately. By using the Bill Me Later finance feature my order was considered paid in full and would be shipped upon the next arrival of lenses. I believe the transaction was performed on Monday and by Thursday of last week I received an email that my lens would arrive in 3 business days via UPS. I guess the moral of the story is pay for the lens and the wait is over upon arrival the dealer. The B&H salesmen was very cordial and professional.

I have the 25mm on my wish list and I'm curious about the 14-150. I own the kit lenses and this would be a nice travel lens. Unfortunately I'm saving my money for some expensive DZ glass (i.e. the 35-100mm f/2.0 and/or a big tele) so I'm making due with my "kittens". :-)

Hmmmm, I picked up the 25mm a month ago - checked the B&H site which showed it "in stock". I procrastinated for a day, checked again and it was still "in stock" so I ordered it. The lens arrived 4 or 5 days later.
I must have just been lucky, as it showed "out of stock" shortly after my order.

In a fit of impulsiveness, I ordered the 25mm a few days ago when it happened to be in stock at B&H. But then rationality took hold and I canceled the order the next morning. I'm sure it's a very nice lens, but I know in my heart that it's not going to make my photographs $800 better .

    Raindog2,

What's your impression of this lens so far? If I had it I'd shoot something with it right away.

The weather has been poor, so I haven't really had a chance to test it fully. My initial impressions are that it is very sharp wide open - perhaps slightly better than my 14-54 set at 25mm f3.1. My OMZ f1.4 50 is downright blurry by comparison wide open. I think this is outstanding performance at such a large aperture. The focus is spot on as well, so no issues here. The focus speed is broadly similar to the 14-54, perhaps a whisker slower, but really so close that it is difficult to distinguish between them.
The build quality is very good. I like the center pinch lens cap and the lens hood fits easily and smoothly - much better than the 14-54.
Too bad it is not water resistant like many of the DZ lenses, and it would have been nice if the nifty "OM like" aperture ring functioned with Olympus E cameras, but this seems to be a fine lens optically and a welcome addition to my kit.

    Did you see this thread:
    http://www.fourthirdsphoto.com/vbb/s...ad.php?t=18871
-the translated price would be around $1500.

But originally it was to ship last spring for around $1000.
