    Default Monopod

I already have a very good Slik tripod but want to get a good quality monopod. I use a Sigma 135-400mm and Zuiko 50-200mm lens so need something that will take the weight of either of these lens.

I have a Jessops monopod at the moment but it is very light and does not really hold the camera still when I press the shutter on my E510.

Can anyone suggest a good brand to buy please based on experience?

    cheers,

    RonB

I think they're all very much of a muchness. I've got a Manfrotto of some description (681 or something like that) which comfortably takes the 300/2.8 and that's not an expensive one by any means.
    Best wishes

I just bought the cheapo MX450 at Wallyworld on Monday. $18.33US, I have yet to try it. I figured a one legged stick, how much better could an expensive one be?
Well see if it outlives the one year warranty

    Jim,
I've had that Monopod From Wally world for some time now and it severed it's purpose before I got a better one. Just don't lean on it to hard or it will collapse on you.

    Ron B,
Unless I'm totally off base here the Monopod is only to help steady the camera so if you don't use proper holding techniques the camera will move when you press the shutter. I personally still hold the camera with both hands when using one. I use a VersiPod 2 with Manfrotto 3229 head successfully with my 510 and 70-300. It has seen many many miles in the mud dirt and what ever else got in it's way.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for your comments. I have bought a Slik Slik PRO POD 600 monopod which should be with me in a day or two. I let you know how it goes.

    Cheers,

Just as an aside, I purchased the Slik AF1100E ball head to go with the Slik 600 Pro Pod monopod and am awaiting delivery. Will let you know how it performs.

    Ron, congrats on your purchase.

As an alternative for others who may be researching, I have used a Tiltall monopod for over fifteen years. It's solid and bullet-proof, but fairly light weight. I don't think they're still in production, but they can be had fairly inexpensively on ebay.

With a proper monopod head (Manfrotto/Bogen 3232 for example) it is a solid performer.
