Default new 35-100 motor seems loud

just recieved my 35-100 today and what a great lens. just one question to other owners of this lens. The af motor seems pretty loud to me the only thing I can compare it to is my buddys 70-200 2.8L lens. his seems much quieter. is this normal or did I get a dud

It is, much louder than my other lenses. I think it's because it doesn't have the newer style motor and has to move quite a large mass of glass over bigger distances than the other lenses. Funnily enough, when working, I don't even notice it.

    Cheers

I never noticed it, but I guess you can call it loud. As Ray said lots of glass moving. Shutter and focusing beeps are what usually bug me.

Probably a dumb question, but you do know that you can turn the beep off?

The other thing to note is that your friends L series Canon lens will have VERY quiet ultrasonic focusing.

The 35-100mm is really the only one that tends to be loud (which is all relative I guess). All the other lenses, including the 90-250mm are very quiet.

    Cheers
