    Default Assignment #12: Water

    Water, water, everywhere,
    And all the boards did shrink;
    Water, water, everywhere,
    Nor any drop to drink.

    - Samuel Taylor Coleridge, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner

It's been a while since we've used a subject for an assignment, so for the next couple of weeks, let's look at Water.

Now, water is an easy subject to find, and there is no shortage of easy photographs to take. Remember, though, that we're not artless snapshooters. Take some time with this, consider what water means to you, and what aspect of its complex nature you'd like to feature in a photograph. There's enough material in this one subject to be a life-long project, so don't stop at just one image, either.

These assignments always welcome experimentation and sharing of our learning opportunities (="bad photos"), so please don't be shy if you have something to share.

Here are a few fish in the pond behind my house. I love these little guys as they bite all the time when fishing so the children stay interested. Without the Crappies in the pond it wouldn't be half as fun going back there.

    Water...

The biggest ecosystem. And some need it badly to ensure that their species will survive.

First they need to mate. Preferrably near water

    Attachment 6579

Then they need to deploy egs into water, to ensure their babies will survive.

    Attachment 6580

And like ewerywhere there is allways someone spoiling the fun....

    Default My take

Taken during a storm. Water everywhere. And now I can confirm that the E-3 with the ZD 14-54 is weather sealed. Not even a glitch after two hours walking and shooting in rain.

Thanks for the compliment Assaf. It's one of my favorite photos from last year.
The E-1 & 50-200mm allowed me to stand in the spray and take the photo.

    Thanks,

What water assignment would be complete without the ubiquitous water drop shot? I know everyone has done them, but it's kind of neat to try and capture my own. This was taken after severe thunderstorms last night in our yard.

    Default Splash!

    From today.

A rare summer gale was moving through middle England, down here on the south coast the winds were still very strong and at high tide the waves were breaking over the sea wall at Southsea.

This next one I think nicely breaks the rule that the subject should be moving into the frame :-)
