    Default Rugged . . .

. . . Would be the word to describe this scene. This range of mountains is on the western boundary of Glacier National Park, in what is commonly called, " The North Fork" as the north fork of the Flathead River flows through the valley. The river is the actual boundary line of the park. This area is home to a good population of both grizzly bears and the gray wolf.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. The framing effect of the foreground trees is the perfect touch.

    Jim -

As Dale notes, great composition. No doubt this is rugged country, but it is also breathtaking. You are most fortunate to reside in such an enchanted land.

    Lovely Jim!
The tonal difference between the foreground and the rest is stunning.

Lovely photo Jim. A fine combination of rich colours, clouds, mountains and forest all beautifully composed. Would like to get there one day.

An extremely nice cloud capture. That's better than I ever do in that area with distance haze.

Thank you all for the nice comments. I am truly blessed to live in such an area of photo ops. I just wish I could afford to spend more time out in it. The recent decline in fuel prices is helping though.
It took a little work to bring out the mountains in this one due to the haze, but I am slowly getting the techniques down in my PP routine. The other photos from this expedition didn't require as much effort as this one, lucky for me

    Thanks,
The "eye" is a work in progress. Helpful critiques like l got from Bob last week really help a lot. Sometimes, people just make nice comments, which is nice, but a critical view will help us develop our skills. I think my ability has come along way in the last year, but still has a looonnggg way to go!

I have finally started trying to make the picture before I take it, instead of after, which is what I am used to doing

Very nice. That's a very stark contrast between the fluffy clouds and the shard, jagged mountain range, and the points 'v's of the trees.

Absolutely gorgeous, Jim. You're really developing an 'eye' for mountain landscapes, my friend, along with the post processing skills to bring these scenes to life. Keep up the good work!

Oh my, what a superb view. The mid-distance brown trees and the clouds do a great job in framing the mountains. I actually find the foreground green trees a bit distracting, there doesn't seem to be quite enough of them to do anything to the composition, but a lovely shot nonetheless.

I'll bet there's someone having a tough time on the top of one of those peaks

    Everyone, thanks for the comments!
    Jdal,
I likely could have made this shot with out the green tree tops poking in the bottom, but I would have had to get out of my truck to recompose the shot

very good Jim,, that area offers some super scenery to photograph,,

the distances are amazingly deceptive when they can be 20 miles away and look like only a few miles,,
